Behind the Scenes With TL Fox at the All-Women's Card in Laughlin - Part I!   PART II
Photos and Story by Sue TL Fox

On October 8, 2005, at the Harrah’s in Laughlin, Nevada, there was another fantastic card put on by Rock and Sock Productions, with “A Ring of their Own” Boxing card.  I generally do not cover the events myself, but rely on other photographers and writers to provide ringside coverage of the boxing events.  I did decide to cover the Laughlin event, and was not disappointed.

I set out for Laughlin, via Las Vegas, a day before the weigh-in, and arrived in Laughlin, at about the time, the weigh-in had begun.  After hurriedly getting our bags in the room, we rushed down to the Fiesta Showroom, to attend the weigh-in.  (See Photo Gallery # of the venue and outside area surrounding the Harrahs)

Upon our arrival at the weigh-in, Jackie Kallen, Bonnie Canino,  promoters Arnie Rosenthal and Ken Weiss, Amy Green,  matchmaker Wanda Bruce, and the boxers and their teams were present. I was pleasantly surprised to get to meet John Hill, a longtime WBAN reader who was also at the weigh-in.

The following day, I got to the event early, and met up with some of the fighters in the dressing room area, that was located in the Fiesta Showroom, at the Harrah's.  Elena “Baby Doll” Reid and her mother (who looks more like a sister) came into the area, and it was the perfect opportunity to talk with her and to have her sign some autographs for the WBAN Free Give-away contest.

Reid told me that she was definitely set to fight Regina Halmich on December 3, 2005, in Germany.  She was looking forward to the rematch.  I asked if Reid and Moreno were going to wear headgears for the exhibition match that they were going to do that night, and she said that they were, and the exhibition would go four rounds.

I also saw Bonnie Canino, as she was in the process of getting Laura Ramsey’s hands wrapped, and she allowed me to get some photos of both her and Ramsey.  Ramsey sat quietly in her dressing room, and I did not talk with her very much before the fight.

I then noticed Yvonne Caples walk in with her team, and after she settled in her dressing room, I was able to get some photos and video footage, as she was being wrapped up for the night’s main event with Wendy Rodriguez.  Caples was in good spirits and this would be the third fight that I would see her fight in person.

Just about that time, Jeannine Garside of Windsor, Canada, walked in with her trainer/manager Josh Canty.  She also signed some photos for boxing fans, and I took a lot of photos and video of her before she went to her dressing room.

As I spoke to Garside and Canty, I noticed that Shadina Pennybaker was warming up on the stage of the Fiesta Showroom where there were more dressing rooms.  After getting the okay from the trainer.

I then met up with Carina Moreno and her trainer/manager Rick Noble.  They talked about her upcoming WBC World title fight that will take place in Thailand.

After spending about an hour in the dressing room area, we headed to the outdoor Amphitheatre, where the boxing event was to take place.  I also met up with new boxer Demi Nguyen, who will be making her pro debut this month.

Also, ringside was pro boxer Dawn Reynolds, that told WBAN she is working hard in the gym and will be preparing to fight in the near future (photos).  I also met up with former amateur boxer Krysti Rosario, who was commentating on the card. Jo Jo Wyman’s mom was at the fights, and I grabbed some photos of her. She is an avid boxing fan of the sport.
