Mann Announces her
retirement from Boxing!
August 13, 2005
(AUG 13) WBAN received a retirement letter yesterday from Bonnie Mann,
and she states the following - To Sue Fox and WBAN:
Tomorrow night at the LJVM Coliseum in Winston Salem, North Carolina, I
will be announcing my retirement from boxing as well as awarding the
belt to the new WBE Middleweight Champion. I get emotional just thinking
about it and don’t know how I will get through addressing the crowd.
I have never loved a sport like I love boxing and to retire from the
competitive side of this was not an easy decision to make. I would like
to thank everyone who tries to promote not just women’s boxing but all
of boxing in a positive light. A special thanks goes to the North
Carolina Boxing Commission and all of the promoters, matchmakers,
trainers, sparring partners and fans who have been with me throughout
the years.
Throughout the lows and the highs of this sport I have always been able
to remain positive and achieve my goals. That is not always easy to do
in this sport and I could not have done that alone and I want to
encourage the young ladies who are just starting out in this sport or
are considering this sport to do it for the right reasons and use sound
judgment when making decisions that for all intense and purpose reflect
who you are as an athlete and a person.
Thank you again Sue and Dee for all that you do for covering women’s
boxing and may you still be around for 100 more years.
Bonnie Mann The Queen “B”
WBE Middleweight World Champion |
