"Dear WBAN editors,
I would like to respond to the ridiculous and baseless accusations that
were published in Team Moss's statement. My name is Zoltán "Toto" Kiss,
I am a coach and manager and I have spent my whole life in boxing. It
was myself, not my brother, who has won the
Hungarian Championships several times, and had good results on World
Championships and Olympics. Hungarian boxing is internationally
acknowledged, we have many world champions in the men's and women's
competition alike.
My boxer, Krisztina Belinszky and I have participated in competitions in
several European countries, and I can assure you that we provided the
same level of comfort and conditions that we had experienced abroad and
that can generally be expected. When Krisztina was competing in Germany,
we arrived for the weigh-in on the match day, driving 1500 km together
with Krisztina in the snow-covered mountains, having to wait at accident
sites or snow blocks for hours.
There was nobody to welcome us in Koblenz, for example, we had to find
the weigh-in site ourselves, etc. Despite the circumstances, Krisztina
achieved a draw and earned the sympathy of the German audience by her
performance. I never complained anywhere, because I believed that we did
our best considering the difficult conditions, the away match, the
judges, the short notice (we were informed about this clash three weeks
before).
Terri Moss is quite a different case. We had informed her before the
match with Stephanie Dobbs, but then she said that she could not prepare
for the fight that time, but she would be ready by December. That is why
we accepted her challenge as she told us through a Hungarian forum,
profibox.hu, and private letter to JollyDee that she wanted to fight me.
Terri's team arrived on Thursday morning, she was welcomed by a little
delegation at the airport, with a bunch of flowers that she took without
a smile or thanks, and put under her arm. By giving her flowers, we
wanted to show her that we did not treat her as an enemy, but as a
worthy opponent. However, she was extremely hostile all the time, had we
known that she was like that, we would never have invited her. We did
not really need this match and we regret accepting her challenge.
It is true that their hotel was not like the Hilton, but we wanted to
provide them with a pleasant accommodation close to the match venue.
Unlike them, Don "Moose" Lewis, who arrived with them, was satisfied
with the place. We hired an English-speaking driver for them to drive
them around in a Mercedes van, wherever they wanted to go. We paid them
all-inclusive, they could order whatever they wanted to eat, unlike in
Germany, where the price of accommodation only covers breakfast and you
have to pay for everything else yourself.
We did not reserve the honeymoon suite for them, but we were trying to
give them the best conditions for relaxing. The size of the warm-up
room, where the two of them were staying before the match, was 7x7
meters, so they could warm up comfortably. We had to wait half an hour
for them before they entered, which they refused despite the warnings,
even though they had been warming up for over one and a half hours.
Eventually, Don Lewis had to go and get them, but they sent him away in
a harsh tone. I read in the voy forum that they thought Terri could only
stand a chance if she could annoy and throw Krisztina off balance, but
is this the way??
The Italian judge, who was taking charge of the match, is not a beginner
at all. He is an amateur world champion and two times professional world
champion. He gave the match to Krisztina with the largest margin.
Terri was preferring jumping in with her head down, and the judge warned
her for this many times, eventually she was deducted a point for it. Her
injury was also due to these moves. Krisztina always tries to play fair,
minor fouls may occur, but she never headbutts in this almost deliberate
manner. By the way, credit should go to Terri Moss for fighting through
the ten rounds with her injury.
If you wish, we can send you photos of the hotel where we booked a room
for her or the video footage of the match. The uncut footage can be
downloaded in full from the www.ProfiboX.hu website. JollyDee is a real
enthusiast of women's boxing and his expertise is beyond doubt as he is
also a certified judge.
Thank you in advance for publishing my response, and I am sending my
kind regards to WBAN readers.
Kind regards,
Zoltán "Toto" Kiss"
