(JAN 18) WBAN received a letter from a
very appreciative father, Charles B. Goranson, in regards to a
female boxer Christina Christian, who fought in Chicago, on behalf
of his 10-year-old son, Brendan Goranson, who recently had a
heart transplant. (For details, go to:
Goranson told WBAN in how Christian helped out. He wrote the
following: "Since all of this (that has happened to his son),
organ donation awareness has become a huge priority for me, as well
as being able to help other families in our same situation. I
decided that I would make increased awareness one of the many silver
linings to come from this situation. I can’t imagine losing my
son…and we almost did several times. Christina charitably fought for
Brendan in her last fight, January 13th, 2005 at the Cicero Stadium
in Chicago, Illinois. She came into the ring wearing a Donate Life
T-shirt and I was able to distribute nearly 1000 fliers to support
our cause at the event. She signed autographs for family and friends
and was personally interested in my sons’ story as evidenced by her
sincerity in our conversations. She has expressed interest in
helping in whatever way possible in the future and has since become
a donor herself. Her manager, Bruce Houde, has been amazing as well.
He believes in the cause and we both feel Christina is not only a
phenomenal boxer, but an even better person; one which can help
raise donor awareness and put the right kind of face to women’s
boxing!"
