(APR 21) New York's Team
Freeform Women's Boxing Club captures another three Golden Gloves
Championships at the Famed Madison Square Garden. Keisher
"Fire" Mcleod, 110, Vanessa Greco, 114, and Cara
Castronouva, 119, won Championships in their respective
divisions for the second year at the New York Golden Gloves, one of
the Nation’s oldest and most prestigious boxing tournaments.
"Three the Hard
Way" as they are known, have been training together for three years
under the watchful eye of Lee Shabaka and have displayed excellent
boxing skills in all the tournaments they have entered. As a matter of fact, Team
Freeform goes back to 1998 and has to date produced over 12
Champions and have won over 40 Championships on the State,
National and International level.
In 2001 they walked
away with three USA National Championships in Camp Lajune, North
Carolina, and that same year they prepared three women (1/4 of the
American Team) for the First Women World Games Held in Scranton
Pennsylvania. 35 countries entered that tournament helping to put
the wheels in motion for Women's Boxing to become an Olympic Sport.
Other women who
have been a part of this great women's boxing club have been Deborah
Stein, 119, Joy Liu, 138, and Angel Bovee, 138.
Lee said, “we've
had quite a few Champions from the New York area come from our club
or through it. We now have a new lineup of women climbing the ranks
of our team, this is actually our third generation, and as usual we
will do our best to produce some of the best Female Boxers in the
Nation. We are always reaching out to women who seek advice
and training in the authentic art of boxing.
