It took barely 40
seconds last night in Luna Park (Buenos Aires) for the WBA
super bantamweight champion, Marcela ‘la
Tigresa’
Acuña, to demolish her 23-year-old challenger, Paola
Esther Herrera Gómez of
Colombia. “The Tigress set out to devour her,” reads the
report in TyC
: Acuña attacked; Herrera
essayed a rearguard action - trying desperately to use
technique to fend her off - but the champion connected
anyway, and Herrera’s challenge began to unravel.
Acuña finished her off with an
‘excellent combination to the head’ that left the challenger
staggering helplessly and referee
Aníbal Andrada
no option but to intervene.
Herrera
Gómez had entered the ring
undefeated after 14 (some sources say 16) contests in her
native Colombia; but, as Clarín
records: “The Formosan showed her no mercy.”
