Having abandoned her quest for Ina Menzel's world title after only
three rounds in April, Maribel Santana presumably thought robbing
Marcela Acuña of hers would be easier.
Like taking sweets from a baby, for example?
Last night in front of 4,000 spectators in the Centro Deportivo
Municipal (CeDeM) Nº 2 in Caseros (Buenos Aires) and a live TV
audience, the 35-year-old recognized her error, the submission this
time coming only 37 seconds into the second round when the woman
from the Dominican Republic signalled unambiguously to the referee
her unwillingness to continue.
With her out of the way, the Tigress turned to other matters: her
feud with fellow Argentinian Alejandra Oliveras, who will be
measuring herself over 8 rounds this Friday (22 December) in a new
venue, the Lawn Tennis Club of Buenos Aires, against one Claudia “La
Chica 10” López (5-1) of Chubut. After expressing scepticism as to
whether the fight to unify her own WBA and Oliveras's WBC super
bantamweight titles will now ever take place, Acuña told reporters:
"Oliveras is scared of me. That's why she's asking for so much
money."
