(JULY 19) Tia Daniels who’s known as
“TNT” continues making a major impact in the boxing world, by
winning her second National Golden Gloves Championships, defeating
two of the top female boxers in the nation, July 8-12, Hollywood,
Florida. Both bouts were classics that could have been broadcast
live on HBO or ShowTime.
In a much-anticipated semi-final bout, Daniels boxed the perfect
match against the reigning 2007 Women’s National Golden Gloves
Championship, Margaret Morgan from Manchester, NH.
Morgan came to Hollywood as the reigning Women’s National Champion
and arrived with a lot of confidence. Daniels pounded out a majority
four-round decision over the reigning Golden Gloves Champion.
Daniels and Morgan have fought once before, during 2007 Women’s
National Golden Gloves, semi-finals, when Morgan won by a close
decision. These two elite boxers have both accumulated an array of
championships and titles but have only fought each other once
before.
During the Finals - Saturday, July 12, 2008, Daniels defeated
Jessica Francios, Baton Rouge, La, with a unanimous decision.
Daniels outclassed her final opponent and almost stopped her at the
end of the 4th round to capture the victory and gold medal. In what
was a one-sided fight, Daniels used her pawing jab, followed by her
powerful straight left hand to methodically brake down Francios en
route to a stunning performance.
Daniels has had a brilliant amateur career. She has won five
consecutive state champions, two regional champions, and most
significantly, two victorious in the 2008 National Women’s Golden
Gloves Championships to win her second national title.
Her trainer says she will look to keep Daniels extremely active in
the coming months, with an eye on securing another National title at
the 2008 PAL Nationals (September 29 – October 4), Oxnard,
California
and participating at the Women's World Championships at Ningbo City,
China, November 22-30, 2008 - Not only did Daniels win her second
championship title, but she is truly an inspiration to the youth of
Brevard County and a huge role model in many kids my life.
