(NOV 7) On November 20, 2008, at the
boxing event “American Metal & Iron Fight Night at the Tank at the
HP Pavilion, in San Jose, California, there will be two women’s
bouts on the card.
In one match, Chika Nakamura, of New York, will be fighting Tiffany
Junot in a lightweight four rounder. In another bout, Melissa
McMorrow, of San Mateo, California will be fighting a four-round
junior flyweight bout. Her opponent has not been named.
The evening’s main event will feature Lightweight Bobby Pacquiao
(29-14-3, 14 KO's) a native of General Santos City, Philippines.
Pacquiao will fight in a 10-round lightweight bout against current
Lightweight NABA Champion Robert Frankel (25-9-1, 4 KO’s) out of
Denver, CO.
Pacquiao, the current WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight Champion and
former WBC Continental Champion is coming off a win over Decho
Bankluaygym which ended with a knockout in the eighth round of a
twelve round bout.
Pacquiao’s ring experience includes major fights at Madison Square
Garden, Hard Rock, and Thomas & Mack against some of the world’s
best including Humberto Soto (45-7-2, 29 KO’s) and Hector Velasquez
(50-12-2, 35 KO’s)
His major wins include victories over former World Champions Kevin
Kelley (60-9-2, 39 KO’s) and Carlos “El Famoso” Hernandez (43-7-1,
24 KO’s).
The Pacquiao brothers train together in Los Angeles with legendary
boxing coach Freddie Roach.
American Metal & Iron Fight Night at the Tank welcomes back Bay Area
undefeated Light Middleweight Karim Mayfield (6-0-1, 5 KO’s) of Daly
City, CA. Mayfield is scheduled for a six round bout. Mayfield a
young up and coming fighter known as “Hard Hitta” has been boxing
since he was a teenager. From the San Francisco area, Mayfield was a
legendary street fighter who despite his size, managed to conquer
men twice his size. His 41-6 amateur record includes many honors and
awards. He won the San Francisco Golden Gloves in 2006 and was rated
#1 in the state.
His most recent fight was on March 20 at HP Pavilion where he fought
another Bay Area native Francisco Santana (9-1, 5 KOs). This was his
first fight that went all rounds ending with a split decision
victory for Mayfield. Making his forth appearance at HP Pavilion for
American Metal & Iron Fight Night at the tank, Mayfield looks to
keep his winning record alive.
Additional fighters scheduled for the card include American Metal &
Iron Fight Night at the Tank "You Be the Judge" favorite from San
Francisco, CA Jason Peterson, (2-1, 1 KO), Salinas fighter Eric
Garcia, (2-0-1, 1 KO), Stable mate to Bobby and Manny Pacquiao.
Al Bernstein, one of the most respected boxing analysts of all-time,
will be in attendance at the American Metal & Iron Fight Night at
the Tank weigh-in on Wednesday, November 19 at 2 pm and at the event
on Thursday, November 20 at 7:30 pm.
WEIGH-IN DETAILS:
The weigh-in will be held on Wednesday, November 19 at The Grill at
HP Pavilion at San Jose. The weigh-in time is 2 pm. All fighters
will be on hand and will be available for interview.
AMERICAN METAL & IRON FIGHT NIGHT AT THE TANK INCREASES CROWD
INVOLVEMENT WITH “YOU BE THE JUDGE”
For this new season of AM&I Fight Night at the Tank there has been a
new aspect added to increase crowd involvement and overall
excitement. It’s called “You Be The Judge”. The crowd will get to
judge the first four undercard bouts and choose their favorite boxer
by round of applause. The fighter with the best fight and who
receives the loudest crowd encouragement will win a trophy – the AMI
Cup – and an extra $500 bonus to take home.
