Molly McConnell Wins in Oregon
By Ricardo Ibarra
November 7, 2008

(NOV 7) Portland, Oregon’s Molly McConnell (9-1 1NC 4KOs 147 lbs.) preserved her status as one of the Pacific Northwest’s best fighters with a six round unanimous decision over Los Angeles, California’s Demi Nguyen (4-3 2KOs 146 lbs.) this past Saturday, November 1st at the Seven Feathers Casino Resort in Canyonville, Oregon.

While McConnell controlled most of the bout, her opponent was a tough one and made the victory a hard one to get. Early on in the bout Nguyen did a good job of pushing McConnell back with effective left-right combinations. The hand speed and early aggression of Nguyen appeared to give McConnell problems in the first two rounds.

By the third round, though, McConnell began to take control, countering well with left hooks and pushing Nguyen back with hard right hands. As the fight wore on McConnell continued to step up her aggression, while Nguyen slowed down. As McConnell pressed with lead rights and hard combinations on the inside, Nguyen tried to answer back as much as she could, but she found it hard to keep up with McConnell’s busy work rate.

All three judges saw the fight in favor of McConnell by scores of 60-54, 58-54, and 58-54.
