(MAR 8) In February, WBAN reported
that Kazumi Izaki, the oldest boxer in Japan, 45 years old at the
time, was
set to fight Mexico’s Ana Maria Torres for the World Boxing Council
(WBC) Super Flyweight
World title on February 28, 2009. BUT, before the fight took place
they pulled Izaki from the fight, due to her age, even though they
had already sanctioned the fight.
Izaki took matters into her own hands, and she visited and made a
direct plea to the headquarters of the WBC in Mexico saying, "I am
reaching 46 years old soon, but I have no health problems. I want
you to approve my fight for the world title."
According to a report sent into WBAN, we have been told that Izaki
having met directly with the WBC President and appealed her
wellness, ability and enthusiasm as a boxer, and that she won his
understanding toward the approval of the title match.
A Japanese media
reported that Mr. Sulaiman, the WBC President gave permission to
Izaki's world title fight.
