(MAY 1) Universum is returning to
Bremen nearly ten years after the last appearance in the same city.
On May 2 the „Universum Champions Night“ will feature two title
fights.
Headlining the event will be the popular and unbeaten WIBF/WBC
featherweight champion Ina Menzer (23-0, 9 KOs) will be risking her
belts against Franchesca “The Chosen One“ Alcanter (18-8-1, 9 KOs).
Both attractive and hard hitting ladies met for the first time at
the press conference at the Bremer Autohaus Brandt.
World champion Ina Menzer: „Franchesca is always attacking, she
knows what's she's doing. I expect a very aggressive opponent but I
have prepared myself very good with my coach Trainer Michael Timm
for this challenge. I'm in excellent shape and my last fight against
Esther Schouten has given me a boost on my level. I want to make use
of this improvement against a awkward and experienced fighter. I
want to show a great fight and thrill the Bremer audience!“
Ina Menzer's trainer Michael Timm: „The fight against Esther
Schouten past January was her best fight so far. We still have
worked on some parts like left or right hooks to body and head as
well as the feeling for the distance to the opponent.“
For the US-American Alcanter it will be the first fight on European
soil. Alcanter: „Its a new experience for me to fight in Europe and
here in Germany. I'm excited and I'm looking forward to the
challenge. Ina is a deserved champion but she has to get past me. I
will pressure here from the beginning.“
Alcanter trainer Brian Spicer: „Ina has great boxing skills and we
know that. The fight will be a very big challenge and we have to
give our best. The fight on Saturday night will be special and a lot
of fun and be prepared what we will show.“
After the presser both fighters drove to the famous landmark, the
Bremen Town Musicians. Menzer and Alcanter touched the the front
hooves of the donkey as it is said to make wishes come true.
Two male fighters are ready to return
Additonal high class fights will be featured in Bremen. With lots of
anger the bantamweight Wladimir Sidorenko (21-1-2, 7 KOs) is
returning to action. The Ukranian “Mini-Power Station” will face
current WBA champion Anselmo Moreno (24-1-1, 8 KOs) of Panama in a
rematch of his controversial points loss one year earlier. The
Michael Timm trained Sidorenko now has the chance to recapture his
title. Sidorenko: „I feel I was cheated out of the win. It was at
least a draw so I would have kept my title and would still be world
champion. I will make it much better and clearer now and I want to
take my belt back.“
Michael Timm: „Wladimir has trained very hard and intensive and I'm
sure that he will win this time against Moreno.“
World champion Anselmo Moreno stated about the differences to last
years fight: „This time it will be much easier. I will take the belt
back once again to Panama. Last year everyone in my country watched
my fight and my win and the will be watching it this Saturday as
well.“
The highly regarded cruiserweight Alexander Alekseev (16-1, 15 KOs)
wants to get back on track. He was surprisingly upset by Victor
Ramirez in January in a bout for the vacant WBO interim belt by
technical knockout in round 9. Alekseev will now take on the
American Max Alexander (14-4-2, 2 KOs) in a ten-rounder. Alekseev:
„I don’t always want to remain a contender, but to become the world
cruiserweight champion. Here in Bremen I want to take the first step
on the way.“
A total of seven fights are scheduled including Marcel Meyerdiercks.
The unbeaten featherweight will be facing the Bulgarian Iordan
Vasilev in his 12th pro fight. Also in action will be the Hungarian
flyweight prospect Pal „Pimpa“ Bedak who wants to demonstrate his
amazing speed and punching power against Hassan Azaouagh of France.
The talented heavyweight Christian Hammer returns to the ring for
his second pro fight after a long injury lay-off. Hammer will be
challenging Nikolai Marinov.
The fight of Ina Menzer will be shown live on ZDF from 11:00pm. The
highlights are available to see on www.boxing.de on Sunday.
