(APR 12) On Friday, April 9, 2010, in
the only female boxing match of Arena Sportspromotion fight night in
Schwerin, Germany, It was a tough night for Özlem Sahin (8-0-1, KOs
4), the undefeated minimum weight boxer.
Sahin was up against Svetla Taskova (4-28-1, KOs 1). In female
boxing, Taskova is like a “gatekeeper” of the lower weight classes -
whoever wants to get to the very top has to beat her first.
As usual, Taskova showed her wide
range of technical skills and routine. The first two rounds went
to her. Sahin started slowly. Her sporadic attacks had no
effects and left enough room for Taskova to score, without,
however, being a real threat to Sahin.
From the third round on Sahin
increased the pressure and found her rhythm. The fight got
tougher in every round and more than once Taskova had to rely on
all her experience to get out of dangerous situations. At the
end of the six-round fight in junior flyweight it was a hard
fought victory for Sahin. The judges’ score was 60-56, 59-55,
58-54, a decision which was actually clearer than the match
itself.
