(SEPT 30) Lucia Morelli will
travel to Marseilles on November 6th as challenger to Myriam
Lamare's WBF Light Welterweight title. Morelli has suffered with
health issues throughout her career, and this year is no
exception. She tore a muscle in her right arm in early May, and
has only been able to resume her full training schedule 4 weeks
ago. Until then she was restricted to keep in shape by running
and mountain biking. Morelli has shown an admirable amount of
perseverance and determination in
her quest to reach the top, despite her many setbacks.
The preparations for the fight are going well, according to
trainer/manager Andreas Preuss. They travel to Nadia Hokmi's gym
in nearby Strassbourg/France twice a week, where Lucia is
sparring with some of the male boxers in the gym; Hokmi will
join the sparring in a couple of weeks. At home Lucia is
benefitting from sparring with some of the best German and Swiss
women amateur boxers in such a Tasheena Bugar, Sandra Brügger,
Ulrike Brückner and Sandra Brugger. Lucia Morella enters the
ring with a 14-1-0 record. Her only defeat occurred in a world
title fight against Cecilia Brækhus.
Myriam Lamare is one of the most respected female boxers in
Europe. She is also the only European
to hold a WBAN belt, which she won by defeating Ann Saccurato on
October 10th, 2009. There are plenty of big names on Lamares
record list, which shows 17-3-0. She travelled to Albuquerque to
fight Holly Holm in her own backyard in the beginning of last
hear, and has fought Anne Sophie Mathis (twice), Belinda
Laracuente (also twice) and, UK pioneer, Jane Couch to mention a
few."
