(JAN 23) Sarah Kuhn, 144, Schoharie, NY, improved her record to 3-0 (1) with a unanimous points win over the tough Cassandra Lindsey, 141, Columbus, Mississippi, in an entertaining four round bout. Lindsey, with the loss, dropped to 3-8 (2).

Cassandra started off fast by landing three blistering punches in the first ten seconds that caused the normally aggressive Sarah Kuhn to suspend her attack momentarily to gather her wits.

From that point on, Kuhn cut down the ring and forced her opponent to the ropes and corners where she proceeded to land body punches with an occasional right uppercut to the head while receiving only intermittent counter left hooks from her opponent.

Near the bell ending round one, Cassandra caught Kuhn with a counter left hook that appeared to stagger Sara who appeared more off balance than hurt, but the punch drew interest from the crowd that the home-town fighter might be in for a tough bout.

The next three rounds were carbon copies of each other with the much stronger Kuhn forcing the quick handed Lindsay to the ropes, landing the much more meaningful punches even forcing Lindsay to switch to the south-paw stance for a short period of time in the second round. Lindsay had no answer for Kuhn’s relentless aggression and was forced to throw single counter shots unable to arrange any combinations of note. In the end, all three judges fittingly scored 40-36 for Sarah Kuhn who is beginning to crack the world welterweight rankings.

In her previous bouts, Kuhn showed that she needed space to punch. Against Lindsay, she displayed improved in-fighting technique and a wider arrangement of punches landing several left hooks and right uppercuts. In her three bouts, she has faced a slugger, a slick boxer, and a counter puncher. It is refreshing to see a boxing manager building a fighter instead of a record.

Crowd favorite Jackie (The Force) Trivilino, Plattsburgh NY, improved to 6-2-2 (1) with a 6 round unanimous win over Karen Dulin, Providence RI, 2-7 (1). Trivilino, normally a fast starter, toned down her attack in the first round to grasp her opponent’s style still wining the round on all three cards.

After the first round, each proceeding stanza saw Karen Dulin, who appeared in excellent shape, struggle with her range initiating her jab from too far away allowing Trivilino to easily counter with lead hooks and uppercuts. Once inside, Jackie, to the excitement of the crowd, landed a considerable number of punches causing her opponent to clinch. Dulin had no answer for Trivilino’s swarming style and was forced to clinch and move away mounting little in the way of offense.

In the end, each judge scored the bout in Trivilino’s favor 60-54. Karen Dulin dropped to a deceiving 2-7, but received applause from the sold out venue for her efforts.

Jackie Trivilino, always a crowd favorite wherever she fights, continued to impress with her effort coming of a draw with the talented Nydia Feliciano for the New York State Featherweight Title back in November.
