(JAN 24) WBAN has been notified
that Sophie Anne-Sophie Mathis, 21-1-1 (18 KOs), of Dombasle,
France, and former multi-world champion is back and that after a
two-year break due to a reported injury, she is ready to take on
some title bouts in 2011.
We were also told by Christel of Team Mathis, that Mathis will
now fight as a "welterweight", where she had previously fought
as a junior welterweight.
In 2010, Mathis had taken a couple of non-title bouts as "tune
ups" but now seems determined to fight the title bouts in 2011.
Mathis' plans in 2011, include a fight on February 18, in
Martigues, France, where she will fight Loli Munoz, for the WBO
European title. Then on April 29th, in Pontault Combault, Frnace,
she will face Duda Yankovich for the WBO European title. There
is also a potential fight in May, in Panama for another title
bout.
Team Mathis told WBAN that they are also in negotiation to
possibly fight Holly Holm in the United States, in June or July.
" Her goal is to prove that she is the best welter in the world,
we are willing to face Cecilia Braekhus end of the year!", added
Team Mathis.
WBAN would like to officially say to Mathis, "Welcome back!"
