Moreno Comes Up Short Against Yesica Bopp
January 30, 2011
by Mario Serrano
Publicist/Team Moreno

(JAN 30) Last night in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Former four-time world champion, Carina "La Reina" Moreno (21-3, 6 KO's), 106¾,  was unsuccessful in her quest to capture Yesica Bopp's (14-0, 5 KO's), 106,  WBA and WBO Light Flyweight titles.

"Yesica Bopp is a great champion and she won the fight, said Moreno. "It's very difficult to travel thousands of miles away from home and get a victory. When I get back, I'll look at the fight and see where I can improve."

While Moreno gave a gallant effort in defeat, it was Bopp's defense, footwork and overhand rights that were the keys to success. Moreno had her moments, but it wasn't enough to get the win. The victory solidifies Bopp as an elite fighter in her division.

Although the scorecards read 100-91, 99-91 and 98-92, it seemed as though the fight was a bit closer.

Team Moreno has mentioned that her next fight will not be taken on short notice as it was in this fight. Look for Moreno to be back in action sometime later this year.

[WBAN comments:  It is absolutely refreshing to hear a boxer give props to her opponent after a fight,  even if they could easily call foul, because of fighting their opponent in there home turf.  We see all to often fighters claiming that they were "ripped off" even when they were stopped in the fight.  Thank you Team Moreno, and Carina for not only being a role model for good sportsmanship, but this really shows why you (Moreno) are a multi-world champion in the sport.  Sue TL Fox]
