(MAY 25) Today the press
conference was held in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the upcoming boxing event that will
take place on June 10th. WBAN just learned that
Holly Holm will now be fighting New Mexico boxer Victoria
Cisneros and not Cindy Serrano of New York who got injured and
had to pull out of the fight.
Promoter Lenny Fresquez said today that Cisneros (5-11-2) has
been wanting a rematch with Holly Holm (29-1-3), and added,
"Be careful what you ask for - you just might get it."
WBAN would like to say: Victoria "La Reina de la Guerra"
Cisneros is hungry---she is very hungry to beat Holm, and she
will definitely be coming to fight when she steps into the ring
with Holm.
Cisneros WILL for sure have her work cut out for her
though---as Holm is considered one of the top pound-for-pound
female boxers in the sport today. It will definitely be a
toe-to-toe battle between these two. WBAN will be ringside
for this upcoming boxing card.
The press release we received:
Holm vs. Cisneros will headline the Route 66 Casino Hotel as
part of a scheduled seven-bout card presented by Fresquez
Productions, Don Chargin and Golden Boy. This is a
history-making event; The first time female fighters will be
featured as a main event on Golden Boy's Telefutura. Victoria is
eager to prove herself; she's been asking for a rematch since
she stepped in (literally pulled out of the audience) to fight
Holly Holm after a scheduled fighter backed out of the fight.
Holm won the fight with Cisneros but the fight went the distance
-- 10 rounds. Cisneros is currently ranked 3rd best lightweight
in the country and 10th best lightweight in the world.
In a dynamic semi-main event, seven years in the making, Santa
Fe's Joaquin Zamora (18-3-1) and Colorado fighter Elco Garcia
(24-7) will rematch in an 8-round bout. After Garcia scored a
sixth-round TKO over Zamora in 2004, Zamora went on to win the
next 13 out of his last 14 fights.
Another Duke City Showdown will feature Willie Villanueva (9-3)
and David Proa (7-2). Villanueva will have something to prove
since he's coming off three losses. David Proa was dubbed
knockout artist since his 7 wins have come by KO's. Despite both
fighters being from Albuquerque, they've never seen each other
in the ring professionally.
These two Albuquerqueans have high hopes of one day rising to a
world championship. They'll be the opening fight of the night on
June 10th. For Brandi Montoya (0-1), this will be her second pro
fight, and for Diana Torres, her pro debut.
