(AUG 5) In what is considered one
of the top fights of the year, Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter”
Holm will be fighting Anne Sophie Mathis of France. Holm-Mathis
will headline the “World Dominance” card in the main event, on
December 2 at Route 66 Casino Hotel in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
WBAN will be at this fight as these two top fighters, both rated
#1 with the WBAN World ratings, with Mathis rated #1 as a
welterweight, and Holm rated #1 as a junior welterweight, will
fight for two belts that will include the IBA welterweight, and
the WBAN welterweight (independent) belt.
[For those of you that may not be
familiar with the WBAN world title independent belts: WBAN
only has world title belts available, with no other types of
belts offered. We go strictly by our
Ratings, and the proposed fights are voted on by
the WBAN's independent board members, Brian Ackley, Bernie
McCoy, and Rick McLean. We do not charge any sanctioning
fees, we consider this the ultimate award for boxers who win a
WBAN belt.]
In some quotes from a press release that was sent out yesterday,
Holm talks about her fight with Mathis. Holm said the
following: “My fight with Ann Sophie is going to be very
tough. She’s a tall fighter who uses her range. A fight like
this definitely helps women’s boxing. I don’t want to be a paper
champ and boxing fans don’t want to see one. On December 2nd
they’ll see the top two rated women boxers in the world. My
pride will be on the line because I’ve always believed you need
to beat the best in order to be the best. I’ve never wanted easy
fights. Winning a challenge like this makes it an even sweeter
victory.”
