(AUG 20) El Paso’s Jennifer Han improved her record (now 3-1-1) with a dominating victory over Fort Worth’s Lisa Lamb (now 6-6-1). The twenty-eight year old super featherweight ventured into Lamb’s backyard to participate in Paulie Ayala’s 12th annual Boxing at the Ballroom. The gala event raised money to support the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Fort Worth.

Han comes from an accomplished fighting family. Han’s father, Master Bae Han, operates a martial arts studio in El Paso. Her brother, Abie, has a perfect boxing record of 12-0. Younger twin sisters Stephanie and Heather are making names for themselves as well, with a national Golden Gloves championship on Stephanie’s resume. Jennifer is a six time national amateur champion and an accomplished kick boxer. She also recently competed in Todas Contra Mexico, the world’s first all-female boxing reality show.

Friday, August 19 Han was back to the business of professional boxing as she engaged Lamb. From the beginning of the four round contest, the taller Han appeared confident and composed as she took control of the action. Jabs followed by straight rights to Lamb’s face set up dazzling combinations. While many punches were blocked, Lamb was forced into a defensive posture with a high guard. It was this that ultimately secured Han’s win.

By the second round Han had clearly established a flurrying head attack and appeared unfazed by the few punches Lamb snuck in. Near the halfway mark of the second period Han landed a left uppercut to the spot between Lamb’s navel and her solar plexus. Visibly hurt, Lamb retreated. Han remained patient, breaking down Lamb’s defenses to produce openings for more uppercuts to the belly. That Lamb survived the round surprised many at ringside.

The following two rounds were more of the same. Lamb was battered around the ring, occasionally taking a wild swing. She is naturally slower, and the beating she continued to endure did nothing to improve her chances of hurting the slicker Han. Han’s extensive amateur boxing and martial arts experience showed in her demeanor and in her ability to take advantages of the opportunities presented by her opponent. A unanimous decision win was met with applause from the crowd.

Han has previously complained that she has difficultly securing fights, and her performance this night shows why. Han is a dangerous boxer whose small number of professional bouts conceals a far deeper fighting experience.
