(NOV 12) WBAN would like to give
special recognition to Ann Wolfe---Recognition as a female
boxer, AND trainer as one of the best in the business. Wolfe is a true
inspiration in the sport.
Wolfe may not have gotten her just
rewards she deserved when she was an active female boxer, and
had won many world titles. She had years of frustration never
getting an opportunity to fight Laila Ali---but Wolfe paved her
own road in the sport without riding on the coat tails of others
to achieve what she has accomplished in the sport in the past
and present.
I remember covering Ann Wolfe ringside in one of her first
fights at the Mercer Arena, in Seattle, Washington, on October
9, 1999, when she fought Dakota Stone in a four-rounder.
It did not take long to see that she was going to be one of the
top talents in the sport, by even viewing this earliest fight of
her boxing as a pro.
WBAN has posted some
excellent videos of Wolfe, when she fought the much taller
boxer, Vonda Ward, who towered over Ann, at 6'5". She stopped
Ward, in one of the most impressive KO's in female boxing
history, an HBO three-part series of her training James
Kirkland, and a documentary that was done on Wolfe.
