Yankovich: Ripped off or not?
March 27, 2012

(MAR 27)  WBAN has received a link to the full video of the fight between Duda Yankovich vs. Enis Pachecho, that took place on March 16, 2012 at the Coliseo Elias Chewing in Barranquilla, Columbia.  The two were fighting for the WBO Lightweight title.  One of our WBAN researchers who help us with upcoming events and boxing results wrote the following and who located the video said the following:

"Today I watched the fight between Yankovich and Pachecho, and in my opinion, someone left a skunk in the area in Columbia because the home town decision stunk. Pacheco may have thrown more punches but Yankovich landed more and she landed most of the power punches. Yankovich constantly drove Pacheco to the ropes with heavy bombs, hurting her in the fourth and knocking out her mouthpiece in the fifth. Pacheco then turned octopus in the second half of the fight grabbing and tying up Yankovich with a referee that wouldn't break them up. It may have not been the worst hometown decision I ever saw but it is sad to watch a title is at stake."

Apparently, Team Yankovich felt the same way for various reasons and has publicly petitioned this particular fight to be made a "No Contest."  Eddie Montalvo of Team Yankovich sent a petition for review to the International Arbitrator's Commission to intervene and conduct an investigation of the fight, and to the WBO to assign an impartial independent panel of International Arbitrators to review fight video in hopes that upon its finding they would rule the Yankovich-Pacheco bout a "no contest."

Montalvo talks about his view of what happened in the fight [excerpt from petition we received from Montalvo]:

"Although it may have appeared Yankovich went down in the initial round by a left hook thrown by Pacheco, the blow wasn't effective as it went off Yankovich's right glove as Yankovich's right leg slipped from under her causing her to hit one knee and glove and bounce right back up for the attack. From that moment on Yankovich went on the attack with the better shots of the two all the while Pacheco grab at every opportunity sneaking in a punch here and there during clutches she initiated. The referee failed to observe that but the video will not lie. He also failed to admonish and/or penalize Pacheco for her continuous holding and grabbing."

"By the fifth round this writer (Eddie Montalvo, also Yankovich's manager) calls referee Jose Hiram Rivera over to him between rounds and asks him to admonish Pacheco for all the holding she was doing throughout rounds 1 and 5. He ignored my request and allowed Pacheco to continue to grab and hold the entire bout. In any other international bout be it a world title or not, any referee would have not only admonished Pacheco they would have deducted a couple of points for the consecutive grabbing and hitting throughout 9 consecutive rounds. The fight video will demonstrate the negligence on Mr. Rivera's part in failing to admonish and penalized Pacheco."

"Yankovich fought an intelligent aggressive fight demonstrating her experience but Pacheco's grabbing and holding complicated Yankovich's full attack. Clearly Yankovich was the dominant of the two delivering effective blows and the more solid punches. A dedicated veteran fighter such as Ms. Duda Yankovich DID NOT deserve to be ridiculed..."

Montalvo stated in the [[excerpt] petition:  "The Yankovich Camp publicly submits this Petition as we are confident it will be ruled a NO CONTEST upon review." Montalvo stated in the petition that he does not want Mr. Juan Carlos Devia to promote the rematch and wants him ban for various  reasons listed in his petition.

WBAN has posted the full fight for boxing fans to judge for themselves.  We will update the WBAN readers as to what happens with the petition that was filed by Montalvo of Team Yankovich.
