(MAY 28) Rosilete Dos Santos, who
has boxed professionally since 2003, with an impressive
professional boxing record
has made a recent difficult decision in regards to her career in
the ring.
Santos who successfully defended her WIBA Super Flyweight
Champion on June 28, 2012, when she defeated Maria Jose Nunez in
a 10-round unanimous decision and she had first won the belt
that was vacant the previous year on July 2, 2011 is set to
retire from the sport.
37-year old Santos told WBAN,
"The age and bruises made me have that attitude. It was also
difficult to lose weight before fights that also and also
influenced me."
After her recent victory over Argentina Carina Britos on April
20, 2013, she said that she was going to retired. However, a
decision published this week, secured her as an eternal when she
was awarded emeritus champion with the WIBA (Women's World
Boxing Association).
Upon Santos learning of the award, it took her by surprised, but
she was very delighted.
Santos said, "It is the recognition of a successful career,
although Brazil does not recognize me either. But my name will
be immortalized in the world of boxing and sports. And best of
all, the title came from WIBA, which is the largest entity in
the world of women's boxing at the headquarters of boxing and
sports, which are the United States."
Santos is set to have a farewell fight from the sport. On June
28, 2013, she is set to fight at the Centro de Excelência do
Basquetebol, Sao Jose dos Pinhais, Parana, Brazil. According to
Boxrec, she will leave the sport with over 34 professional
fights. Santos also tells WBAN that she has had 16 amateur
fights bringing her pro and amateur winning career at 42 wins.
Santos told WBAN after she leaves the sport, "I want to work
with boxing. Will help promote the sport and teach boxing to our
youth. I'm sure I and Minos (of Deliverance - husband Rosilete)
can create other champions."
