(NOV 5) The A.I.B.A’s November
rankings list has just been issued with a few notable changes to
the previous list albeit due mainly due to the method by which
ratings are determined.
Rankings are based on performances at AIBA approved tournaments
over a two-year rolling period.
The system has resulted in some changes in most weight
categories – more significant moves will likely take place
during 2014 when various Confederation titles as well as the
World Championships (in Canada) are at stake..
As a result of this system, Russia’s Svetlana Gnevanova drops
from no.1 to 5 in the 45-48kg weight classification and top
ranking now goes to Josie Gabuco of the Philippines, ahead of
India’s Pinki Jagra.
At 51kg, China’s Cancan Ren has again overtaken Olympic Gold
medallist Nicola Adams with Ren on 2700 points some 600 more
than the English woman. India’s Mery Kom Hmangte is at no.3
ahead of Marlen Esparza at 4.
The 57kg division has Tiara Brown once more ‘on top of the
podium’ with a surprise at no.2 where Kil Ok Kim of DPR Korea
moves to from fifth last time round.
The Four time World Champion and Olympic Gold medallist at 60
kg, Ireland’s Katie Taylor continues to dominate the lightweight
rankings which she heads for the 7th year in a row though there
is a new no.2 where Tajikistan’s Mavzuna Chorieva replaces
Russian Sofya Ochigava - in fact the latter drops to fourth.
Brazil’s Adriana dos Santos Araujo moves up a place to become
the third ranked lightweight whilst Queen Underwood moves from
36th to 27th.
Notwithstanding the new rankings it is difficult to believe that
Chorieva would defeat Ochigava if the two were to meet
‘tomorrow’.
Mikaela Mayer (United States) retains her no.1 spot at 64kg –
indeed the top six remain unchanged from last time.
At 69kg the ever improving Raquel Miller(also United States)
moves into 2nd position just behind Ukraine’s Mariia Badulina.
At the Olympic 75kg class, China’s Jinzi Li takes over at no.1
ahead of Olympic Gold medallist Claressa Shields and Great
Britain’s Savannah Marshall whilst Russia’s Nadezhada Torlopova
slips from 1st to 4th.
Another Chinese boxer, Meiqing Yuan heads the 81kg category with
Franchon Crews (United States) a close second whilst in 81+kg,
top spot goes to fellow Chinese pugilist Yunfei Li.
