(NOV 18)
Three women’s bouts were featured last Thursday night on Corpuz
Promotions’ Thursday Night Fights at the Toppenish Community
Center in Toppenish, Washington.
In the co-headline bout, the
very popular Lateet Olney scored her first win as a pro in
impressive fashion, stopping Jessica Dave in the first round.
Olney, of Toppenish, Washington, stormed her opponent from the
outset, blasting away with quick, precise punches in close.
Dave
fought back gamely, but this only gave Olney more openings to
land her punches. A minute into the fight the referee stepped in
and gave Dave a standing eight count.
After the count Olney
swarmed, unloading with a barrage of unanswered shots, forcing
the ref to step in and save Dave from any unnecessary
punishment. Olney, who showed vast improvements from her last
fight, moved her record to 1-0-1 with 1KO.
She continues to
build her fan base with her all out brawling style. Plans are in
the works to have her back in January.
Making her professional debut, Latisha Adams dominated Cyna
George, who was also making her pro debut, en route to a second
round TKO. Adams took control from the sound of the first bell,
swarming George with wild punches from all angles.
The referee
issued two standing eight counts in the first round and one in
the second. After the last eight count George’s corner
mercifully stepped up onto the ring apron and threw in the
towel.
In a three round amateur women’s bout, Saigi Hintsatake took a
split decision victory over Nakota Yallup. The fight was close
throughout as both fighters worked at a fast pace and traded
momentum. Early on it seemed Yallup was landing at a greater
rate, but late Hintsatake seemed to come on strong.
The crowd
showed their appreciation for their effort, cheering them on as
they traded leather down the stretch. Two judges scored the bout
29-28 for Hintsatake and one 29-28 for Yallup.
In the men’s pro portion of the card Toppenish’s own Barry
Corpuz scored a second round TKO over Nate Washington with a
series of body shots. Juan Esquivel stopped Juan Zuniga in the
second with a solid right to the chin. Mark Garcia took a
unanimous decision over Jose G. Livingston.
In amateur action, Mario Rodriguez scored a unanimous decision
victory over Norman Schuster and slick Victor Almaguer scored a
first round TKO over Justin Andreas.
Corpuz Promotions will be back at the Toppenish Community Center
January 11th.
