(JUNE 22) 24-year-old Eva
Voraberger won the WBF Super Flyweight title, (and the
vacant WIBF Super Flyweight title) Last night at the Trend
Eventhotel Pyramide in Vienna, Austria, defeating Thailand’s
Nonggift Onesongchaigym.
Fighting for the title recently
vacated by current WBF Flyweight World Champion Raja Amasheh,
Voraberger had a very tough time and struggled to get the upper
hand against the strong visitor.
After a good start by the Austrian, Onesongchaigym found it easy
to connect with straight punches in the middle rounds,
especially her left, and only a better finish by Voraberger
saved the night for her as it went to the scorecards.
Judges Jean-Marcel Nartz, Rene
Netolicky and Rainer Gottwald scored the close bout 96-94, 97-94
and 97-93 in favor of Voraberger, but some ringsiders felt it
could easily have gone the other way.
With the victory, the new world champion improved her
professional record to 18-3 (9), while 18-year-old
Onesongchaigym travels back to Bangkok at 6-2-1 (1), knowing she
can still have a bright future in the sport.
In the co-featured bout, undefeated Turkish-born German Oezlem
Sahin captured the vacant WBF Womens Intercontinental
Strawweight title with a dominating victory over former two-time
world title-challenger Buangern Onesongchaigym, also from
Thailand but not related to Nonggift.
In total command from the start, Sahin impressively landed more
or less as she pleased, especially with her overhand right, and
won every round before finally ending matters at 1:10 of the
sixth round, after flooring her opponent twice.
Sahin is now 18-0-1 (6), showed she is true world class, and
could be a serious threat if given a chance to challenge WBF
world champion Anne Sophie Da Costa from France. Buangern falls
to 11-7-1 (2), but at only 21 she has plenty of time to come
again.
Also on the show, promoted by Box-Team Vienna, undefeated WBF
International Welterweight titlist Laszlo Toth upped his
professional record to 18-0-1 (13) with a unanimous decision
over Polish veteran Arek Malek in a non-title eight rounder.
