(SEPT 8) On Thursday night at the
Crowne Plaza Hotel, promoted by Bobby D Presents, had five
exciting bouts on the card, with three of those fights featuring
women in the ring!
In the mainliner, two-time world
champion Jolene “Classy Assassin” Blackshear, 108, of San Diego,
faced Susan Reno, 108, of New York in a scheduled six rounder.
Blackshear made it a short night though, stopping Reno in the
first round.
In the co-main, in an eight-round
bout, Kenia Enriquez, of Tijuana, Mexico, faced a strong
opponent that has a deceptive record Mayela "La Cobrita" Perez,
of Saltillo, Mexico. In the first few rounds, both boxers
exchanged a barrage of combinations and the fight was fairly
close---but in the later rounds, Enriquez began to move quicker,
and agile, and began to gain on her veteran opponent. Enriquez
remained undefeated winning by a unanimous decision. Final
judges scores were 80-72 on all cards.

Jim Wyatt could not have said it better when he said, "Dangerous
Divas proved to be an important platform for women’s boxing and
San Diego as a city as six brave women stepped into the ring to
cement their careers, continue on the path to stardom, and for
two fighters, enter the ring as professional fighters for the
first time. For local fighter and headliner, Jolene Blackshear,
the opportunity to fight in her hometown in front of her family
and friends proved to be special."
At the intermission the boxing fans were treated to seeing many
of the talented boxers and more enter the ring and be
introduced. The special tribute featured the following in the
ring...local talent Brandon “Cannon” Adams; Leon Spinks III;
former world champion Jesus Calud; Amaris “Diamond Girl”
Quintana; “Body Issue” participant Danyelle Wolf; Del Pettis, an
1980's Pioneer boxer from the past.
