(NOV 18) Amazing Layla McCarter
training at the Hit Factory Gym in Las Vegas, Nevada as she
prepares for her upcoming fight against Melissa "Huracan"
Hernandez, November 21 at the Orleans Hotel & Casino.
Layla McCarter / Mary Ann Owen
This is the third fight for
Hernandez & McCarter, the first fight McCarter won because
Hernandez failed to come out for the 9th round. McCarter won the
Global Boxing Union (GBU) Female World lightweight title
A few months later they had a
rematch once again with the GBU World lightweight title on the
line. This time McCarter lost a Majority Decision. Both fights
were full of action in every round. Now seven years later, the
two meet again at the Orleans Hotel and Casino to dance the
third time. Both of these fighters are veterans in the game,
they train hard and bring their best to give the fans an
exciting evening of boxing. Unfortunately this fight is only
scheduled for eight rounds with no title on the line, which is
to bad because both these fighters deserve a ten round title
fight.
Women's Boxing has lost a lot of
their fan base in North America and especially in Las Vegas due
to the lack of activity. Women like Layla McCarter and Melissa
Hernandez, like many of the women boxers have given their all to
the sport but yet they struggle looking for fights.
Major promoters do not use women on their cards and HBO &
Showtime do not televise women's boxing either. McCarter &
Hernandez and the rest of the Professional Women Boxers are
cheated out of being able to showcase the sport they dearly
love. They lace up the gloves, head to the gym and put in many
hours of grueling training just like the men. In the History of
women's professional sports this has been the case, you're a
Women so you don't get the same opportunity as the men.
March 16,1996 , Christy Martin vs. Deidre Gogarty was on the
Tyson vs Bruno undercard.
Martin & Gogarty had fans on their feet cheering, that fight was
the best women's fight of the 20th Century because of the
tremendous impact it had on so many women inspiring them to box.
In 2014 you would think after all the success with women's
boxing in the early 1990s that this sport would be better today.
Women don't get the pay they deserve, they are not on any major
undercards, their fights are not on Television.
Women are born fighters , I know they will not quit the sport
they love, they will continue to lace up the gloves, train &
hope there will be a fight somewhere for them..
