(MAY 18)
After the World Boxing Federation (WBF) launched a
cooperation with the WIBF and GBU in March, and
merged the three championships into the most
prestigious title in female boxing, Austrian Eva
Voraberger is set to defend the Unified Women's
World Super Flyweight title on Saturday May 30.
Voraberger,
who captured the WBF and WIBF titles in June 2014
and made a successful defense last November, will
face undefeated Serbian Nina Stojanovic at the
Reinhold Heidinger Sporthalle in Leibnitz, on a show
promoted by Boxteam Vienna.
After losing
two of her first three professional fights back in
2008 and 2009, 25-year-old Voraberger has won
eighteen of her last nineteen bouts, only coming up
short in a 2013 challenge for the WBF world title,
and currently has an impressive record of 19-3 (9).
In her most
recent outing, Voraberger suffered a third-round
knock-down and a dislocated jaw but showed true
warrior spirit to fight back hard and retain the WBF
and WIBF titles by split decision against Hungarian
Renata Domsodi. That performance contributed to her
being awarded WBF 2014 Female Fighter of The Year
honors.
Born in Graz
but living in and fighting out of Vienna, Austria,
Voraberger must be considered the favorite against
Stojanovic (23), but the Serbian is reportedly
determined to improve on her 7-0 (3) ledger, and is
confident that she can gatecrash the scene by
upsetting the champion in her home-country.
With the
Voraberger vs. Stojanovic Unified Womens World title
fight as the headliner, the undercard of the show
will feature a mix of local boxers in non-title
bouts and Muay Thai and K1 fights, and a sizable
crowd is expected to turn up for an evening of
exiting combat sports action.
