(MAY 30) What was to be a
unification of the Super Welterweight division between WBO Super
Welterweight Champion Hanna Gabriel of Costa Rica vs. WBC Super
Welterweight Champion Mikaela Lauren of Sweden, will not be...
Sources close to the Lauren Camp
said they were sure that the bout was going to take place but
that last minute negotiations jeopardize this match up.
As a "last-minute" replacement, veteran female boxer Victoria
Cisneros of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, has accepted to vie
for the WBC and the vacant UBF Super Welterweight crowns.
Although to some, Cisneros' record may be questionable for her
to be given this opportunity to challenge for a world title, let
alone dual world titles, she has gone up against current and
former world champions never shying away from the opportunity to
compete. And once again, she has stepped forward to do just
that, defy all odds.
The Lauren Camp appreciates the
Cisneros' Camp accepting this bout at the last minute. And World
Champion Mikaela Lauren stated; "Things in professional boxing
has its way of turning things quickly into chaos. Sometimes too
quickly to be able to keep up. I have experienced this on
several occasions."
"I am saddened," says Mikaela Lauren, "because I was set to box
for (Unify) two World Titles then suddenly my opponent (Hanna
Gabriel) backs out one week before the fight. Unbelievable! It's
WBO who causes trouble, it is not happy with the appointment of
judges. I cannot find words to describe this. I am sad and
angry. I have put a tremendous effort into this World Title
meeting, and I feel betrayed. What nerves..." "The event in
Eriksdalshallen is still on. I will defend my WBC title against
Mexican-American Victoria Cisneros, of Albuquerque, New Mexico,
who has fought over 10 current or former World Champions. She
has experience and I have to box to beat her. And it does not
get any better when you get a cancellation one week before the
fight. I've searched high and low for a substitute opponent
after finding out Hanna pulled out. It wasn't easy making this
happen in the last minute, but in any case, it is Victoria
Cisneros who I will face on June 6, and I am happy. After all,
the WBC belt is the most coveted belt (Crown) which everyone
wants. I also want to thank the WBC, the UBF and most
importantly, my confidant Mr. Eddie Montalvo, for assisting me
in making this happen."
Fight is scheduled for June 6. 2015, in Eriksdalshallen,
Stockholm, Sweden.
