(APR 2) England’s Nicola
Adams makes her first professional appearance on Saturday next
(8 April) at the Manchester Arena when she ‘gloves off’ against
Argentina’s Virginia Noemi Carcamo and will be hoping she is as
successful as a Pro as she has been in the AIBA ‘Amateur’ ranks.
The two time Olympic flyweight champion (London 2012 & Rio 2016)
will have an advantage in as much as that it is the
Argentinian’s first ever bout outside her native land whilst
Adams will be cheered on by the overwhelming majority of a
fanatical home crowd, many of whom have been following her
career with interest since her amateur debut back in 2001.
The 32 years old Carcamo will be no ‘push over’ however having
won four of her seven bouts to date and drawing one. Earlier
this year the Leeds woman signed Pro forms with promoter Frank
Warren but will be trained by American Virgil Hunter.
Back in her native Argentina, the 32 years old Carcamo is
nicknamed ‘ La Tigresa’ and made her debut against Silvia Moreno
in 2015. She has thus far had some 32 rounds as a pro. Born in
Neuquen she now resides in San Carlos de Bariloche.
At the time of the announcement Adams had this to say:
“Now that my first opponent has been announced, all I want to do
is get in the ring – I’m so excited for my first fight.
Training with Virgil Hunter has been amazing, he’s taught me
some great new things for my professional debut.
All my focus is on Saturday 8th April and the road to becoming a
World Champion. Together with Frank Warren, BT Sport and Box
Nation we’re going to take women’s boxing to the next level”
WBO world lightweight champion Terry Flanagan tops the bill as
he defends his belt against tough Russian Petr Petrov in front
of his home fans and on BT Sport 1 from 8.30pm and will also be
available highlights on BTSport.com and via the award winning BT
Sport App and of course on Box Nation.
