(APR 21) This afternoon at the
Brooklyn Marriott, Brooklyn, New York, 5x, four-division world
champion, Amanda Serrano (31-1-1, 23 KOs) of Puerto Rico,
weighed in at the corresponding weight of 118 pounds, while
former world champion Dahiana Santana (35-8, 14 KOs) of the
Dominican Republic weighed in at 122.2 pounds.
This bout is a scheduled 10 round
bout for the Vacant World Boxing Organization's World Women's
Bantamweight title. Since Amanda Serrano weighed in at the 118
lbs., and after the WBO and the New State Athletic Commission
conferred with both the Serrano and the Santana Camps regarding
weight difference, both camps agreed to move forward with the
WBO scheduled World Bantamweight title bout.
"Dahiana could have weighed in at
130 pounds. It would've have mattered because I'm prepared to
face her. And tomorrow Puerto Rico will have for the first time
a five-division world champion. I don't take days off, I train
to win and tomorrow you will all see the results," Amanda said.
The bout will be broadcast live on Showtime Extreme at 7:30 p.m.
EST.
Should Amanda Serrano win tomorrow evening at the Barclay Center
she will become the first boxer in the history of women's boxing
to win world titles in five divisions and would surpass her
countryman 4x World Champion Miguel Cotto as the first Puerto
Rican fighter to do so.
