Team USA Wins Five Golds and Three Silvers on Final Day of 2018 Boxam Tournament

(OCT 2)  Team USA closed out an impressive weekend in Castellon, Spain at the 2018 Boxam Tournament with five more wins today to bring home five golds, three silvers and one bronze from he tournament.

Flyweight Virginia Fuchs (Kemah, Texas) picked up the Americans first win of the day. Fuchs took all five judges cards over Australian Taylah Roberts to win her first international gold of 2018. Amelia Moore (Alexandria, Va.) closed out her international tournament debut on the top of the podium following her own unanimous decision win over Stephanie Pineiro of Puerto Rico. This marks the light welterweights first international title.

Middleweight Naomi Graham (Colorado Springs, Colo.) picked up her first international medal of 2018 following her 5-0 victory against Australian Caitlin Parker, while teammate Krystal Graham-Dixon (New Rochelle, N.Y.) picked up Team USA’s fourth gold of the tournament after defeating Brunner Boglarka of Hungary. Heavyweight Danielle Perkins (Houston, Texas) grabbed the fifth and final gold for the Americans after the referee stopped her bout in the third round against Juhasz Adrienn of Hungary.

Three more boxers from USA stepped into the ring today, Jazelle Bobadilla (Ewa Beach, Hawaii), Christina Cruz (New York, N.Y.) and Rianna Rios (Colorado Springs, Colo.), but fell short of taking the judges cards to walk away with silver medals.

Head Coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) has guided the team throughout the tournament to a total of nine medals, while Joe Guzman (Fountain, Colo.) and Jeff Mays (San Antonio, Texas) have served as assistants. The team will return to the United States tomorrow, with five boxers and members of the coaching staff heading straight to Chattanooga, Tenn. for to take part in the USA vs. Germany Duels.
