(JAN 15) On Saturday,
January 12, 2019, at the Deportivo Trabajadores del Metro,
Iztacalco, Distrito Federal, Mexico City, Mexico, and promoted
by Zanfer Promotions, televised on Box Azteca 7, featured two
female bouts on the card.
In a scheduled 10-round bout, Zulina "La Loba" Munoz, 115, now
49-2-2 (29KO), of Mexico City, won by a fifth round RTD over
Arely "La Gemela Diestra" Valente, 113, of Cancun,
Quintana Roo, Mexico.
The WBC wrote in their press
release, "Among the hunt objectives of “Loba”, is to recover
the female super flyweight championship that was once her title.
Zulina took a break in her boxing career due to the birth of her
daughter Zulina Guadalupe, who was born on March 28 of this
year- something which has more whetted her appetite to return.
The Former champion wants to again contest in the 115-pound
division---keenly seeking a rematch against current champion
Guadalupe Martinez, who defeated her for the WBC super flyweight
title."
Throughout the bout with Valente,
Munoz dominated the bout, throwing some heavy leather and at
times backing Valente around the ring and in the ropes.
Munoz won the first round by 10-9, in the second round Valente
won that round, and the third, fourth and fifth, Munoz won those
rounds.
After Valente was in defense mode, in the fifth round, with
trying to avoid Munoz's aggression, when the bell rang, and as
she sat in the corner, the fight ended by RTD when Valente did
not return to fight in the sixth round.
Zulina Munoz returned to the ring this night after having a
nearly two-year gap of not fighting professionally, when her
last fight was on May 13, 2017, when she lost to Guadalupe
Martinez Guzman in a ten-round unanimous decision, and fighting
for the WBC Super Flyweight world title.
Valente, came into this bout, coming off of two losses.
After Saturday's fight against Munoz, her boxing record slipped
to 12-4-1 (6KO).
In a second female bout,
light flyweight Silvia “Guerrerita" Torres, 108, of
Nezahualcóyotl, México, also won by a fifth round RTD against
Norleidys Graterol, 106, of Las Tejerias, Venezuela. The
bout was scheduled for ten rounds/non-title bout. Torres
improved her record to 20-1-1 (7KO), and Graterol is now 10-2-0
(8KO).
