Ashley Campbell claims first victory, rematch planned in June
by Benjamin Watts
May 9, 2019

(MAY 9) Ashley Campbell has won her first professional bout against Dianne Beazley last weekend at Lake Karapiro. She now moves her record to 1-2.  Both women were fighting in front of their hometown crowd in the Waikato region, putting on a display that could inspire women boxing everywhere.

This was the professional debut of Diane Beazleyand first boxing bout in 8 years. Her last bout was in 2011, where she received a serious injury to the right hand and shoulder. This was Ashley third professional bout with her fighting Caroline Daniels and Sarah Long in the past.

Once the bell rang, history was made with Diane Beazley becoming the first New Zealand born boxer from the Rainbow community.

Beazley expression also changed from calm and confident to a fire burning in her eyes as she came for war. As the battle was about to begin, Alrie Meleisea (Former NZ Champion & currently ranked 10th in the WBA) watched closely known that these women will be a future opponent for her.

It was a close fight as both threw shots with great intention and locking up like bulls. However, it was Ashley Campbell landing the cleaner shots and being the more aggressor throughout the fight which leads to her being the victor.

After the fight, both women were interviewed and ask for their opinion of the fight. First Beazley said she came into this fight well underprepared. However, this fight has relit a fire of passion for the sport and will be back into the ring soon. She wants a rematch with Ashley Campbell as she feels she can easily beat her with the right preparation.

As for Ashley Campbell, she is very proud of winning the fight and getting her first victory. She is now ready to take on the world. She was unaware that Alrie Meleisea was gonna attend the fight but is glad that she did as she plans on taking her on later in the year. When asked if she would have a rematch with Diane Beazley she said definitely bring it on.

Shortly after the fight, it was announced that Alrie Meleisea will not about to compete at June 15th ABA Stadium fight night due to work commitments but will be returning to the ring later in the year. There was an announcement though by promoter Benjamin Watt that the rematch between Ashley Campbell and Diane “Wahine Toa” Beazley will happen on June 15th at ABA Stadium Mid Year Fireworks Smiley vs The Busta undercard.
