(DEC 4) Australian
Combat Sports Athlete Jasmine Parr repeats win in a rematch
against New Zealander Nicila Costello in her third fight for the
WIBA World Flyweight title.
19 year old
Jasmine Parr is the Daughter of ten time world kickboxing/Muay
Thai champion John Wayne Parr and two time world kickboxing/Muay
Thai champion Angela Rivera-Parr. With 12 world titles between
them, Jasmine Parr adds her own World title in this family of
World Combat Sports Champions.
Jasmine Parr (2
- 0 - 0) took on New Zealand born Australian boxer Nicila
Costello (4 - 2 - 0) one year after their first fight. Last time
they fought for the Australian National title, this time they
fought for the WIBA World title. This fight wasnt without
controversy with Costello not making weight for the fight,
weighing in 3 kgs or 6.6 Ibgs overweight for the 50.8kg or 120
ibs limit. The fight still went ahead but Parr was the only one
that could win the world title.
Costello
improved in this fight compared to the last fight when she got
knocked out in the 6th round in December 2021. At one point in
this world title fight, Costello looked like she could have
stopped the fight when she pinned Parr in the corner in round 2.
However, Parr maintained her composure to last the round.
Parr used her
boxing skill to maintain the fight, winning seven out of the ten
rounds. Parr winning the fight by Unanimous Decision, now can
call herself World Flyweight champion at just a young age of 19
in her third fight.
The question is
what is next for both boxers? For Nicila Costello, there is
interest for a future fight between her and New Zealand boxer
Holly McMath. McMath team from Mayhem Boxing in Auckland, New
Zealand trained by Terry Reid-Batchelor has expressed their
interest for a fight between McMath and Costello. It would be
interesting if the fight could happen, especially if it was for
a New Zealand title. If that fight happen, and Costello win,
that would make her the first person to win Australian and New
Zealand national titles since Steve Renwick, who won the New
Zealand title in 1985 and the Australian title in 1986.
As for Parr,
there are multiple possible fights for her next both in
Australia and internationally. For the Flyweight division she
could take on Colombian born Austrlian Viviana Ruiz Corredor. In
the Super Flyweight division there is Sweden born Australian
Linn Sandstrom and Australian IBF World Youth World Champion
Taylah Robertson. She could also go for the WIBA Super Flyweight
Champion Susie Ramadan who just came off a bloodied loss to
Cherneka Johnson.
