announce that the IBF has ordered a mandatory rematch between
Argentina's Micaela Luján and Mexico's Irma García. [press

Luján and García met on August
20, 2022 at Parque La Pedrera, Villa Mercedes, Argentina, for
the IBF Women's Jr. Bantamweight World Title. The judges'
scorecards were as follows:
Judge Silvio Alassia with 107 professional fights, 7 world title
bouts, Scored it : 93-97 (Luján)

bouts Scored it : 98-92 (Lujan)

world title bouts Scored it : 95-95 (Draw)
giving Luján a decision win...
Mr. Eddie Montalvo, Women's Boxing Advocate, Representative and
Retired Executive Director of the International Women's Boxing
Hall, saw the fight and felt that Irma Garcia defeated LUJÁN
convincingly. He then proceeded to watch the fight video
numerous times and came up with the conclusion that Irma
“Torbellino” Garcia was the winner with a score of 93-97, which
caused him to contact Garcia's team to inform them of her right
to appeal.
Mr. Eddie Montalvo contacted the IBF through their official line
of communications and requested a review of the IBF Women’s
World Jr. Bantamweight title bout on behalf of Irma Garcia and,
the President of the IBF and the IBF’s President of
Championships Committee concluded that a review should take
place. The IBF Review Board, which consisted of 3 independent
judges, scored it this way:
Review Judge #1, with 481 professional fights, 35 world title
fights for the IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO
Scored it : 94-96 (Garcia)
Review Judge #2, with 644 professional fights
25 world title bouts for IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO
Scored it : 94-96 (Garcia)
Review Judge #3, with 837 professional fights
190 world title fights for the IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO
Scored it : 93-97 (Garcia) clearly showing that Irma García won
unanimously.
The IBF President wrote the following:
“The IBF is aware and acknowledges the subjectivity involved in
scoring professional boxing and believes and hopes that judges
Alassia, Savino and Tavella scored the fight to the best of
their ability without bias.
However, after the IBF's review of the IBF Women's Jr.
Bantamweight Championship bout between Micaela Luján and Irma
García, it is the opinion of the President and the President of
the Championships Committee that judges' Alassia, Savino and
Tavella scoring do not accurately reflect what happened in the
fight.
Based on the above, the IBF is ordering an immediate rematch of
the IBF women's junior bantamweight title between Micaela Lujan
and Irma Garcia. The rematch of the IBF Junior Women's
Bantamweight Title Micaela Luján vs. Irma García must be carried
out within ninety (90) days or before January 16, 2023. “
Irma García longs for the rematch
and hopes that negotiations and the contract will be executed
soon. We will keep you informed.
