(JULY 3) After this recent fight
between Savannah Marshall vs. Franchon Crews-Dezurn, that took
place on July 1, 2023, at the Manchester’s AO Arena, in
Manchester, England---where Marshall defeated Crews-Dezurn, and
winning all of her world titles belts by a ten-round majority
decision---one of the biggest fights on the horizon would be:
Claressa Shields vs. Marshall in a rematch.
The first time that Shields and Marshall fought which was out of
the United States at the O2 Arena in Greenwich, Shields soundly
defeated Marshall in a multi-world title bout in the
middleweight division.
Shields had no problem defeating Marshall who
had held on to a long term fact that she delivered an (only) loss
to Shields a very long time ago. What she probably did not
figure out at the time is Shields has become a P4P in her
weight class and it appears there is not a fighter in her weight
(neither middleweight, nor super middleweight) that can defeat her.
So now that Crews-Dezurn has lost to Marshall in a majority
ten-round decision, winning Crews-Dezurn's world title belts
that included the IBF, WBC, WBA, and WBO Super middleweight
titles---the obvious huge fight should be in the United States,
with a Shields vs. Marshall rematch.
Shields had no issue fighting Marshall outside of the USA the
first time around, and still soundly defeated her. It is
only fair that in the rematch, that Marshall come over to the
USA and fight Shields within her country.
In the meantime, after the Marshall-Crews-Dezurn fight, where
judges scored the fight 95-95, 99-92, and 97-93, in what was not
so highly regarded a stellar fight between Marshall vs.
Crews-Dezurn that drew about 8,000 fans in an arena that can
hold 21,000----Marshall called for a rematch with Shields who was at
the event this night.
Marshall said, Thanks for coming over, let’s get it on at
super-middleweight.” Marshall had said that she did not think she could make it as
a middleweight---but would do it at super middleweight.
Shields who was interviewed on Sky Sports, responded with, “If
Savannah comes to the USA, I’ll fight her at any weight. I
already came over here and beat her up. If she comes to the USA
she will get rocked in Detroit. She has a lot of weaknesses and
didn’t learn from her last fight against me.”
WBAN would like to see the rematch between Shields and Marshall
and feels it is one of the biggest fights on the horizon in the
sport…but all we can say is,
Marshall better be ready to fight her best if she decides
rematch with the likes of Shields.
