DETROIT – August 3, 2023 – Salita Promotions has received a
“Certificate of Excellence” from the World Boxing Council (WBC)
that recognizes their extraordinary efforts to bring big-time
boxing back to the city of Detroit in recent years. The
initiative reached a high point in June, when Claressa Shields
headlined the first boxing event in the history of Little
Caesars Arena, the home of the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red
Wings, in front of over 11,000 patrons.
“I am grateful to the WBC for this prestigious recognition and
their continued support of our efforts rebuilding big-time
boxing in America’s champion city of Detroit,” said Dmitriy
Salita, President of Salita Promotions.
Salita has taken many steps to bring high-level boxing back to
the forefront of a city that’s known for developing numerous
champions over the years, most notable being Hall of Famer
Thomas “The Hitman” Hearns. The June event brought out boxing
stars from throughout the city, in addition to Detroit-music
staples including rapper Kash Doll and the Motown legends The
Four Tops.
In another historic first, Salita helped Shields become the
first women’s fighter to headline an event on premium
television, which took place in 2017 at MGM Detroit. Salita’s
dedication to building fighters from the ground up is seen
through his “Detroit Brawl” series, which began in 2015 and has
featured fighters including Shields, former heavyweight champion
Andy Ruiz and top heavyweight contender Otto Wallin.
To this day, Salita continues to push up-and-comers from the
city and its surrounding areas as heavyweight contender Jermaine
Franklin, along with up-and-coming prospects Joseph Hicks and
Joshua Pagan, competed in the city on a recent July 15 card.
“Detroit’s rich legacy in the great champions it produced lays
the foundation for the future,” continued Salita. “I am
confident that like Detroit is known for producing U.S. made
cars, it will serve as a factory of boxing champions made in
Detroit, Michigan.
