(NOV 16) Last night at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, there was a night of boxing, live-streamed on Netflix, with some very
good male fights on the undercard. In what should have
probably been just an exhibition between Jake Paul vs. Mike
Tyson, ended in an eight-round unanimous decision in favor
of Paul.
In the co-main bout at the event
that stood out. The fight featured Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano
vs. Katie Taylor where Taylor was defending her multiple world
titles. It was definitely an action-packed nail-biting fight
between these two warriors. They definitely did not
disappoint, and although Serrano had a cut over her eye that
continued to get worse throughout the fight, she continued to
dominate her opponent.
The fight did go the
distance, ten rounds of boxing, they were in the center ring
awaiting for the decision. The Ring Announcer, then said
out the scores of 95-94 on all scorecards and that the
fight was a unanimous decision. He then followed up with, "And
still the world champion, Katie Taylor".
When the decision was announced, a majority of the 72,300 in
AT&T Stadium booed and howled at the decision. At the same time,
I was receiving a flood of text messages burning up my phone
with 100 percent of them texting me saying that they could not
believe the decision.
In the post fight interview,
Serrano said, “I knew if it went to the judges, they were going
to be a bit shady. I came here. I chose to be great. I dared to be great tonight, and I went up
three divisions. I am the featherweight champion of the world,
and I want to be great and fight the best. It is what it is."
Well folks, just like their
first encounter of fighting in 2022 at the Madison Square
Garden in New York, we again witnessed yet another again a
ten-round controversial decision.
Continuous headbutts by Taylor,
clashing of the heads targeted at the serious cut that Serrano
received from a headbutt in the fourth round---Which
surprisingly, the referee continued to ignore.
Despite the
continuous fouls committed by Taylor, the judges'
decision to award her the victory was surprising. It's disheartening to witness such injustice
in a sport as boxing--but not that unusual unfortunately.
After the fight they were talking about a rematch.
