Kansas City promoter Doug Freeman reports that January 31, at Ameristar Casino in Kansas City, Missouri, GI Jodi Mobley moved her pro record to 2-0 by way of knockout at 1:58 of the 2nd round of a scheduled 4 round flyweight bout. Jodi defeated  Cristi Lea of Kansas City, who was making her pro debut. Cristi was a replacement for Kristal Allen, who was placed on 30 days suspension after a fight 3 days prior when she was not able to continue due to the flu. The fight was ruled a TKO, hence the suspension. Trainers, promoters and fighters predict a very exciting and busy year ahead for Kansas City women boxers!

January 25, 2001, Houston, Texas, Boxing’s first 2001 card Radisson Hotel Astrodome. Excerpt by Jonathan Cooper: Junior lightweight Lanie Ellis of Houston showed amazing power and polished boxing skills in her pro debut, gaining a third-round knockout of Diane Flemon (0-2) of Nacogdoches. The fight started off as a brawl, with Ellis landing the better of the blows but former Toughman Flemon landed plenty of shots as well. As the fight progressed, Ellis began boxing and moving, landed punches at will and wearing Flemon out.  "It was tough the way she came out and was wailing away," Ellis said. "My coach said at first that I was fighting the way she wanted me to, but I realized if I could box, I would have more success."  Ellis (1-0 1 KO) made her debut at age 31, but she looks to be one of the better female prospects in the area. "I plan on taking this as far as it will take me, and I hope that is to the top," she said.

January 25, 2001, Centennial Garden Arena-Bakersfield, CA
In the six-round co-main event
, Lisa Holewyne, 140, of Crawford, Texas narrowly defeated Brenda Bell-Drexel, 138, of Austin, Texas, by majority decision. One judge scored the bout a draw (57-57), while two judges scored the bout 58-56 in Ms. Holewyne's favor. There were no knockdowns in a tough match between contrasting styles, which led to frequent clinches and tie-ups but also saw determined effort and solid punches. On the whole, it was a very worthy match for a co-main event.  On the undercard, in a rock 'em, sock 'em 4 rounder, Sunshine Fettkether, 149, in her professional debut in conventional boxing, lost a unanimous decision to hometown favorite Debbie Foster, 146. While there were no knockdowns, this match saw many hard, staggering blows that thrilled the highly vocal, enthusiastic crowd and left Ms. Fettkether's nose bloodied and both women marked around the eyes.  Ms. Foster advances to 3-1 with the victory. Ms. Fettkether, of course, is well-known to most readers as one of the preeminent women in Muay Thai. Despite the loss, she showed great promise in the added discipline of Western-style boxing.  All 3 judges scored the match 39-37.  The matches took place before a superb, enthusiastic, appreciative audience (for both men's and women's matches). Crowd estimate - 2,000? 3,000? Fight report by Craigo.

Girgrah dropped Mullett  to the canvas with a straight right at the end of the third round, then started the fourth with a combination of punches, that pinned Mullett on the ropes.  The referee intervened and stopped the fight.  Girgrah did not wear her traditional boxing trunks, and came donning in the ring a red skirt with black tights. Apparently the skirt was so tight that Girgrah's corner had to rip the seams on both sides after the first round to give her more freedom to move!

January 7, 2001 -Texas Station, Las Vegas, NV
Freeda Foreman vs. Yolanda Blackmer (1-2)
