Mary Lehman defeated with a majority decision over Rita
Valentini in a scheduled 119-lb four round bout. Final scoring
was 38-38, 37-39, and 36-40. Lehman is now 4-0-0 (0KO), and
Valentini is 2-2-0 (1KO).
January 31, 2003 - West Palm Beach, in Florida, at the Harriet
Hillman Theatre in City Place
Melissa DelValle, 135.5, defeated with a unanimous decision
over Brenda Bell-Drexel in a scheduled six-rounder. Judges
scores were 60-54. Ryan Wissow told WBAN, "It was a good fight, Bell
put pressure on Delvalle throughout the fight." Ryan went on to say,
"Del Valle boxed well, even boxed the entire 6th round as a
southpaw!" Del Valle is now
27-0-1 (10KO), and Bell-Drexel is 5-16-2 (0KO).

Patricia Martinez,
107.5, now 10-1, stopped Nancy Bonilla, 109 lbs., 1-2-0
(1KO), 1:20 seconds of the first round in a scheduled six-round
flyweight bout.

In a nearly full house of 1,100 boxing fans, Jelena "Mad Dog"
Mrdjenovich, 20, making her pro debut stopped Cathy Boyes
1:19 of the fourth and final round. News sources report that
Mrdjenovich "flashed her power early and often in punishing
overmatched" Boyes. Mrdjenovich is now 1-0-0 (1KO), and Boyes
remains winless at 0-5-0. In the second women’s match,
Lightweights Amy Johnson, Canada, who was also making her pro
debut, had a draw with Idaho native Kala Schiffler. Schiffler
expressed after the fight that she felt "robbed" of the decision.
Final scoring was 39-38, 39-37, and 38-38. furious with the outcome.

Stevens won by a TKO1 over Gina Abel in a scheduled
Strawweight four-rounder.
January 24, 2003 - Chicago, Illinois
Southpaw Cece Barraza, Chicago, Illinois, had a
four-round unanimous decision over Rene Brodacz, Lake Zurich,
Illinois. There were no knockdowns, and both boxers were making
their pro debut. Final scoring was 40-36, 39-37, and 39-37.

Gymnasium, in Seoul, Korea
National women's flyweight champion In-young Lee, 31, won a unanimous decision over Japan's Yumi Yashima
in an eight-round non-title fight. Yumi told the Korea Times, "I wanted to
do better, but things didn't go exactly as I had hoped. I am sorry for my
fans. But I can promise a much better fight next time. In the seventh
round, Yumi was close to not making it as Lee repeatedly landed hard hooks
to her face--but Yumi was able to hold on to the end of the round. Lee
remains undefeated with a 5-0-0 record, and Yumi dropped to 8-2-1 (3KO).

at the Convention Center, in Charlotte, North Carolina
Bonnie Mann won a four-round
unanimous decision over Carrie Flock in a three-minute four
rounder. Final scoring was 39-37 for all judges. Mann
has moved her record to 2-5, and Flock is now 3-1.During the boxing program, they also hold
an auction, which reported last year to have raised 3.4 million. There were several athletes on hand. Several players
from the Carolina Panthers football team, and also Evander Holyfield.

Bridgett "Baby Doll" Riley won a six-round
unanimous decision over Angie
Bordelon, in a six-round Bantamweight bout. Riley knocked
Bordelon down twice in the second round, and the both went at it for
six rounds, entertaining the crowd and receiving a standing ovation
after the fight. Riley improved her record to 14-3, and
Bordelon fell to 3-8.
January 18, 2003 - Essen, Germany
Regina Halmich won a
very convincing points decision over Nadja Loritz. The judges scored
the bout 98-92, 100-90 and 99-91. Nadja Loritz was simply outclassed by
Regina Halmich. She looked unskilled and slow, and her only quality was the
ability to absorb a lot of punches.
In another women's match, Daisy
Lang and Silke Weickenmeier resulted in a majority draw. Lang came into the fight with a serious
knee injury that gave her problems in the later rounds..
Silke, stole the show in a flashy outfit, had to lose 7 kg (15 lbs) to make
the weight. Geudens who reported the results commented, "From what I
saw, I would have given the fast-moving Silke a slight advantage."
One judge gave it to Silke, the other for Daisy and the third called it a
draw.

Terri Moss, 105 1/4, won a
four-round unanimous decision over Stephanie
Dobbs, 104 1/2, in a strawweight bout. These two were like
the Energizer Bunnies going after each other for four rounds! Both
boxers were in excellent shape and never let up during the four rounds of
fighting. Dobbs remained the aggressor, and there were no knockdowns
during the fight. The fight was WEBCASTED by sportstream.tv!
Judges scores were 39-37, 40-36, and 40-36.

Belinda Laracuente won a six-round una. decision over
Janae Romero in a 135-lb division. In a
super-middleweight four-rounder Kim Harris won a una.
decision over Jennifer Mancil.

Palace Indian Gaming Center, Lemoore, California
In front of a packed house of 1,500 boxing fans, with standing room
only, Jenifer Alcorn, 133 ½, won a very close 10-round split
decision over Jessica Rakoczy, 134 ¼, for the 135-lb
lightweight IWBF World Title. Craig Ogawa who was ringside at the
event reported to WBAN that Alcorn had received a cut on her
forehead, from an apparent accidental headbutt, and had a nose bleed
early in the rounds. There were no knockdowns, but the fight was
"tremendous". In the Fresno Bee, staff writer Andy
Boogaard wrote that Alcorn coming into the fight with a
"soft" 14-0 record, remained unbeaten after her first bout
against a "legitimate" foe. Boogaard reported that Rakoczy
"howled in agony" not from Alcorn’s red gloves, but from
the judges decision. Judge Ralph McKnight scored the fight 98-92 for
Rakoczy., Marty Sammon and Terry Smith had it 96-94 and 98-92 for
Alcorn. Alcorn is now 15-0-0, and Rakoczy suffered her first loss
with 12-1.

Carla Wilcox, Seattle, TKO3 over Evangelina Abeyta.
Wilcox is now 2-2-0 (1KO). Abeyta is still winless at 0-3-0.

Mary Lehman fought and
defeated Kim Reed in a rematch, at 120-lb in a four rounder.
The event was promoted by Steel Glove Promotions, and was held at
"4th & B" in San Diego, California. Reed had taken the
fight at last minute when a match with Crystal Hoy of Las Vegas fell
through. Reed got a cut during this four rounder and had to receive
stitches after the fight. Final judges scores was 35-40, 35-40, and
36-39.

Jaime Clampitt, 145, won a six-round majority decision over
27-year old Cynthia Jones, 146. Final judges scores were
59-56, 59-55 and 57-57. Clampitt moves her record to 9-2-0 (2KO),
and Jones remains winless at 0-3-0.

news sources, Titus came on strong in the first round but received
two standing eight counts in the second round before the

On the
undercard of an ESPN2 card, Stephanie Dobbs, 105, TKO'd Crystal
Carpentier, 99, 58 seconds into the first round. WBAN spoke to
Dobbs tonight and she said that she plans to stay in the lower
weight classes and felt good fighting at 105 lbs.
