Jenifer Alcorn TKO'd  Imelda Arias 1:23 seconds in the first round.  An observer of the fight said that it may be time for Alcorn to step up the competition. Alcorn improved her record to 5-0 (4KO). Fight report from Sacramento Bee Newspaper (copyrighted):  He was a little late to help Imelda Arias. The 5-foot 2-inch fighter from Juarez, Mexico, did little of consequence beyond hunching over in a corner in a hail of head and body blows before Stammon interceded just 1:37 into her lightweight bout against Alcorn.  That's all the time Alcorn needed to break a sweat, not to mention Arias' jaw.  "I was expecting a tougher match," said Alcorn, who improved to 5-0 with her fourth first-round knockout. "I was surprised. I think she thought I was going to get tired, and then she would get me. I just didn't stop."  Arias (8-6) squeezed in a single shot to the head before Alcorn went ballistic with 28 unanswered punches.  "I don't think Arias has ever been hit like that," said Gary Sullenger, Alcorn's manager. "It was evident early on that she was in trouble. I think she had a strategy; it just unraveled in a hurry."   As much as Alcorn loved to win in front of a home crowd, she had hoped to  get a little more fight experience than Arias offered.   "This was supposed to be a step up for me, but it didn't work out that way,"  Alcorn said. "Hopefully, next time I can get a tougher fight in."

IFBA Featherweight Champion Sandra "The Shark" Yard  retained her IFBA Featherweight Champion belt (126 lbs)  when she defeated Rolanda Andrews in a 10-round unanimous decision.  Yard moved to 11-2-2.

July 21, 2000, Regent Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NV
Karen Bill TKO'd Maria Johansson 39 seconds in the 2nd round. 

July 21, 2000, Bakersfield Centennial Garden, Bakersfield, California
Marilyn Salcido of Fontana defeated Kim Reed of Los Angeles by TKO.  Fight report (Excerpt from the Bakerfield Californian, By Sherry Mombourquette
Californian staff writer:  The female featherweight bout, which was intended to last four rounds, ended quickly with the fight being called after round two due to a physician's advisory.  In her pro debut, Marilyn Salcido of Fontana defeated Kim Reed of Los Angeles by TKO.  "This is what I dreamed of," Salcido, said of her pro debut. "My game plan was to stick to her and just throw my jabs. I wanted to be the aggressive one. It was a lot of hard work and my coach helped me a lot." Salcido looked more like the veteran as she came out charging Reed with almost non-stop hooks.  Despite a height difference of several inches with Reed looking down at Salcido, Salcido was successful at connecting hooks with Reed's face and head.   Salcido drew blood from Reed's face early in the match, causing the match to end early and sending Reed to the doctor. July 21, 2000, Flying Eagle Casino, Mt. Pleasant, MI, 
Erica Sugar, 144.5, Garrett Park, MD, scored a TKO at 1.41 of the fourth round over Bonnie Wherry, 144, Cleveland, female welterweights. Wherry received an injury to her ankle in the first round, and she stopped in the fourth round. Sugar is now 1-0 (1KO), and Wherry fell to 1-1.

July 20, 2000-Fair Park Automobile Building, Dallas, TX
Alice Smith of Dallas made her pro debut by winning with  a unanimous decision in a four-round super-featherweight bout against Martha Flores.  Flores has now slipped to 0-5 record.  

July 15, 2000, Arenal, Bolívar, Columbia
Two women's matches were held in Arenal.  The results of those matches were the following:  Luz Marina Sarabia defeated Adolsaida Altamiranda with a four-round unanimous decision, in the 135 lb weight class. Marina record moved to 2-0, and Adolsaida slipped to 1-1.  The second match: 
Indira Pérez De Castro TKO'd Mayrin Torres in the third round.  The weight class was in the 118 lb. range. July 14, 2000 -New Hampshire - First Profes
Report:  Carley "The Hammer" Pesente, from Hartford, Connecticut  trained for nine months before making her pro debut. On July 14, in New Hampshire, Pesente met up with Kisha "Awesome" Snow of Brooklyn, N.Y.  This was a "First" for New Hampshire with women's boxing, and according to news sources the fight was stopped too soon.  Pesente and Snow fought for one minute and twenty seconds when the fight was stopped in the first round and Snow won the fight by a TKO. Snow had backed Pesente up to the ropes with some very straightforward hard jabs. Pesente was on her feet when the fight was stopped.  The crowd booed .....Pesente told WBAN the following (Excerpt):  "I fought Kisha Snow last night. It was the first time that two female professional fighters had fought in New Hampshire. I lost a controversial decision that neither the fans or the State boxing commissioners could believe. Kisha and I fought toe to toe during the course of the first round. She hit me and I hit her, but at the end of the first round the ref came over and looked at me and said, 'Oh I see something in your eyes I'm ending this fight.' I was not hurt, dazed or incoherent and I could not believe he was stopping the fight. "  Pesente was pleased that for close to 45 minutes she sat in the parking lot signing autographs with many fans saying the fight should not have been stopped.  Sue TL Fox 07/15/00

Report:  Irsa Girgrah delighted the Hyattsville crowd of 2,500 with when she won by a  unanimous six-round decision over  Melinda Robinson of Austin, Texas, in a non-title bout at Martin's West in Woodlawn last night. All three judges gave Girgrah (13-3-2)  60-54 scores. Girgrah had been scheduled to fight an eight-rounder against Carla Witherspoon, the sister of former heavyweight king Tim Witherspoon. But Robinson (9-12-1) was signed as a late substitute after Witherspoon was charged with a parole violation.

July 9, 2000 Monroe, Louisiana
On the undercard, referee Johnny Femia Jr.  stopped a women's match after 22 seconds in the first round.  Jovette Jackson vs. Linda Edwards. Jackson won the fight. 

July 8, 2000, San Antonio, Texas
Lisa Avila defeated Sara Nichols by a four-round unanimous decision, final score was 39-37, 38-36, 38-37.  Fight Report by Esteban Erik Stipnieks  "Aged Aggressive Avila evens the score. I was at a loss for a predictions pre-fight. Pre-fight, Avila wanted to "feel out" --- then attack. Sara Nichols had no game plan other then to trust in the lord.  She brought a bible ringside. The fight proved to be a good battle.  There was a 21- year age difference Sara Nichols, 19 years old, and Lisa Avila, was 40.  Nothing in this fight was certain until it happened." Erik -Round One Both fighters took slightly backward cautious stances. Sara emptied her tank knocking down Lisa Avila once and almost twice before the bell ended. Avila appeared to be fearful and tentative. Round Two Avila slid into aggressor mode and a heavy exchange of about fifteen seconds occurred in the neutral corner. Avila got the better of it. The action was intense toe to toe. Round Three Lisa Avila slid some martial arts training and was cautioned twice for a spinning backfist. Sara Nichol's trainers scream for her to stay on the outside.  Sarah landed a few jabs. One shot causing Sara Nichol's nose to bleed. Avila landed some solid shots, and so did Sarah. Defense was generally poor by both fighters. Round Four A pattern slid in Avila was clearly the aggressor landing some solid shots on Sara,  almost making her go down. There was clinching near the end as it looked like Sarah might go down. The score cards indicate a close bout with 39-37, 38-36, 38-37.  Sarah winning the first round and the final three going to Lisa Avila. Lisa Avila is now 1-1, and Sarah Nichols  0-1. 

July 3, 2000 Hyatt Regency, Monterey, California
Gina "Boom Boom" Guidi defeated Marsha Valley in a close six-round decision by a majority decision, 57-57, 58-56, and 59-55.  WBAN scored the fight 57-57 which would have made this great fight a draw. July 1, 2000 Elephant & Castle L/C - London.
WBF Lightweight Title - Jane Couch  defeated Galina Gumliska (Bulgaria) in a ten round championship bout.  WBF Pan European Title - Cathy Brown of London defeated Jane Wilde of Middlesboro in a six-round unanimous decision. Brown is still undefeated at 3-0, and Wilde fell to 1-2.
