Gloria Rios  won a six-round unanimous decision over Adriana Chamoza Ruiz in a flyweight division.  Records on both of these fighters are unverified so they will not be listed on this record. Rios improved her record to 3-2-0.

June 30, 2001 in Graz, Austria
Krisztina Krek of Hungary won a six-round unanimous decision over Gheorghita Ionela of Romania in a Junior Featherweight division.  Krek improved her record to 12-4.  Also,  Diana Szilaggi of Hungary won a first-round TKO over Anca Moise of Romania in a Bantamweight division.

June 29 - 30, 2001 DAYTON WOMEN'S INVITATIONAL, Westwood Rec. Center, 611 Leland Ave., Dayton, OH - Amateurs
The first ever all-female boxing tournament in Ohio attracted more than 50 women amateurs to Dayton Friday and Saturday, June 29 and 30, where 21 bouts were held over the two nights at the Westwood Recreation Center, 611 Leland Ave.   Thirteen bouts were fought Friday evening and nine Saturday. The program was distinguished by excellent pairings, arrived at by Al Carson and Jeaneene Hildebrandt, who were in charge of the show. A modest but enthusiastic crowd of about 100 turned out for Friday's matches. Naturally, the Dayton women boxers got most of the support but solid appreciation for good effort went to out of towners who provided a majority of the entrants. Boxers from New York, Georgia, Canada, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan and, of course, Ohio registered for the historic inaugural event. Many expressed the hope that the tournament will be a regular yearly event.   Boxing generally was sharp, fast paced and aggressive in all categories from junior olympics to championship bouts. Clean, hard punching with good defensive skills and enthusiastic effort made the program memorable, especially when it is considered that this was first event of its kind for the area. Officiating was top notch and the few minutes late in starting was excusable paricukarly when the matches were such crowd pleasers. All the women acquitted themselves well. Regrettably, some boxers left after the first night leaving some contestants stranded without opponents in their weight classes. This was a small problem, but a problem nontheless.   Saturday's bouts received enthusiastic response from a reduced crowd compared with Friday's audience. A number of the women boxers did not stay over for the two evenings of boxing and what might have been a dozen of more matches turned out to be just eight.  For the first time out, the event may be called a rousing success despite  modest attendance by fans and a somewhat disappointing number of women who  actually were matched to box compared with the number who expressed interest in competing. Hildebrandt suggested that once the show gets to be known and becomes a fixture on boxers' calendars better participation can be expected.  In any event, the first ever all-women boxing show in Ohio went off very well and the headache Hildebrandt said she was experiencing the day after the program should have not been a major one. She and Carson could be proud of their first effort in the Buckeye state.

June 29, 2001 - Dover Downs Casino and Slots, Dover, Delaware
Ada Velez won by a four-round unanimous decision over  Jamilla Lawrence. Final scoring was  40-36, 40-36, 38-38. Jamilla record falls to 7-5 and Ada moves to 8-0 with 4 ko's.  Bonnie Canino said, "Ada Velez did real good, since she had a car accident three weeks ago with a badly sprained ankle, which she wasn't able to practice on till last week. Jamilla threw a lot of power punches as Ada was able to block and escape from her power punches. Ada returning the same punishment back to Jamilla . Ada skills pulled through the fight showing why she is the champ." Williams Decisions Drexel at the Dover Downs! In another exciting bout, featured an eight-rounder between  Philly's Vienna "The Philly Stalker" Williams and Brenda "Tiger Lady" Bell Drexel,  from San Marcos, TX. According to Rick Scharmberg said "The fight was a slugfest from bell to bell, with Williams scoring a unanimous win by the scores of 77-73, 77-74, and 76-75. This fight was extremely difficult to score, as there were no clinches and nonstop punching by both warriors."

WIBA World Heavyweight title 
Flor María Delgado stopped Mariana Garcia in the sixth round. Delgado is now 8-0, and according to news sources Garcia is 6-1 (unverified) at this time. )

Janae Romero of Denver, fought Christine Rodriguez to a four-round draw. Romero is now 1-0-1. 

June 28, 2001 - Irvine Marriot, Irvine, CA 
Gail Muzzey of Newhall, California KO1 0:17 Tia Greenberg of Huntington Beach, California in the middleweight division.  Muzzey improved her record to 2-0, and Greenberg fell to 1-1.   Greenberg, a veterinarian from Westminster, Californ had her pro debut on April 12th in Bakersfield and KO'd Debbie Foster in 12 seconds in the first round.  Muzzey also in her pro debut, KO'd Esperanza Ramirez in nine seconds of the first round.

June 24, 2001 - Kansas City, Missouri
Mary Ortega defeated overmatched Crystal Bolles, that resulted in a technical knockout in the fourth round. Francesca Alcanter was also on the card, and WBAN will get the results soon.

Dakota Stone won a four-round unanimous decision against Karen Bill.  Stone improved her record to 4-1-1. Bill fell to 3-8.  Also,  Jenifer Alcorn, 136,  moved to 9-0, 8 KO's by stopping Jessica LaPointe, 142,  of Spanaway, WA at 1:19 of the  2nd round. LaPointe, a martial arts fighter and 2-0 as a boxer, was down hard early in the round and showed great courage in getting up and trying to battle back before the eventual stoppage.  Jenifer weighed in at 136 lbs and LaPointe weighed in at 142 lbs.  The fight card was a Top Rank/Univision show headlined by Jorge Paez.

June 23, 2001, Terry Nye's Amateur Tournament, Pennsylvania
In a heavyweight matchup at 220lbs, Michele Cooley from Upper Darby, Pa. decisioned Celia Villacres from New York; 145lb match, Patty Mason from Nyes'Gym outpointed Kim Stowe from another local Gym called Champs;  In a mens' cruiserweight matchup, (194lb.) Mike Jackson from Champs Gym outpointed Brian Ohnmeiss from Nyes'.; 128lb matchup, two 14 year old girls went at it and Keriann Mcnaulty from Rory Bussy decisioned Sacred Downing from New Jersey;   (excellent fight) 156lbs., a very tired Rosaline Moraliss from Allentown, Pa., who in my humble opinion, makes Ali and Frazier look like amateurs when she is at the top of her game, managed to pull off a decision against a tough game opponent in Angel Bovee from New York. Rosaline is trained at the Phoenix Boxing Club in Allentown; No results from matches 6 & 7 but in match 6, which was at 112lb., Vanessa Greco from New York was matched up with Lindsay Knight from Columbiana, Ohio; and in match 7, two more 14 year olds were to do battle at 145lbs. with Alisha Yakavich of Erie, Pa. vs. Ashlyn Huron from Ohio-Robin; 147lbs. Jill Emery from New York stopped Angel Mcnamara of Baltimore, Md. at about 1:00 of the 2nd round;  In the final bout of the evening, at 165lbs., Shelly Seivert from Severn, Md. stopped Faith Webster from New York in the 2nd round. I also understand that Shelly mentioned that this was her last fight and that she was going to hang up the gloves. I cannot confirm that information though. June 23, 2001 - Pepsi Roadhouse, Burgettstown, Pa
Shadina Pennybaker, 157, defeated Leona Tanner, 151.5,  by a unanimous decision in the middleweight division. Fight was promoted by People's Choice Promotions. Pennybaker moved her record to 3-1-0. Final judges scores was (39-36,40-35,40-35).

June 23, 2001 - Carlton, Minnesota - Black Bear Casino
In a long-awaited showdown between the reigning US champion and current US National Tournament champion, Rebecca "Pitbull" Preacher of Simpsonville, South Carolina defeated Jennifer Thysen of DePree, Wisconsin by technical knockout in the 4th round to win their fight for Thysen's IKF Amateur US Welterweight title (Full Contact Rules). The referee stopped the fight after Preacher knocked Thysen down in the 4th round for an 8-count. The fight was scheduled for 5 rounds.   The history behind this rematch is reported on the IKF current-news page. The source for the result is Ray Thompson's Upstate Karate website - Mr. Thompson is Rebecca Preacher's trainer. His report features a
rather frank and interesting account of the "fight before the fight", the psychological battle for dominance between the two women and their seconds at the weigh-in. He also reports that Preacher dominated the fight, scoring heavily and breaking her opponent's nose in the 2nd round, and almost causing Thysen to quit before the 4th round. I haven't verified the result independently of this, but I have no reason to doubt the result although the story, naturally, is told from one side. Patty Satok of Toronto, Canada, who was making her pro debut won by a four-round split decision against Erica Schmidlin of Dearborn, Michigan. Final judging was 39-37,39-37,37-39.  Satok is now 1-0, and Schmidlin dropped to 3-2.

Nadja Loritz of Koblenz, Germany, TKO3 Laura Tudorache of Romania. Loritz improved her record to 5-0-2 (4KO).

June 21, 2001 - Montebello, California
Mariana Juárez of Mexico with a TKO4 over Jessica Treat of Los Angeles in the super- bantamweight division. The fight was even until the third round when Mariana started landing solid blows. In the fourth round Mariana backed Jessica up several times with effective combinations. After a hard body shot Jessica retreated to her corner and was then unable to defend herself. The fight was stopped 2:25 into the fourth round. Once again Mariana put on a great show.  Juárez moved to 6-1-1 (4KO), and Treat fell to 4-3 (1KO). This was a super-bantamweight who is now 4-3 (1 KO).

June 17, 2001 Wendover, Utah
Canadian Trena Drotar TKO2 over Las Vegas' Roberta Bald Eagle in a junior bantamweight fight.  Drotar improved her record to 4-4 (4 KO's); Bald Eagle fell to 0-2.

June 16, 2001 - Sullivan Arena, Anchorage, Alaska (And the first professional boxing card to hit the city in nearly 10 years.)
Two women bouts on the "Dangerous Curve" promotions- Valerie Henin, 146 3/4,  and Patricia Demick, 144 1/2, fought to a majority draw, and Henin remained the WIBF champion. Final scoring on judging was  95-95 95-95 96-94.  On an editorial written by J.R. Rardon of the Anchorage Daily News, he wrote, "A crowd of perhaps 500 fans "filled" Sullivan Arena for the four-fight card where they witnessed a disputed majority draw in the WIBF super-welterweight championship bout."  Rardon went on to say, "Certainly, the fans brought plenty of noise. Much of it came in the form of booing, after the judges ruled narrowly in favor of WIBF champion Valerie Henin in her 10-round super welterweight title fight against Patricia Demick.  In a classic contrast of styles, the crowd fell in behind the big-punching Demick, who finished with a flurry but was probably hurt by staying away from the clean jabs of the taller Henin in the early rounds."  Demick told the reporter, "If I would have closed more, I might have been better," said Demick (6-3), a native of Villa Del Mar, Chile, who trains and fights out of Miami. "I felt like I win the fight." Apparently the crowd agreed with a round of boos after the final scoring was announced. Also,  Marischa Sjauw,147 1/2, won a unanimous decision against Kelly Whaley, 151. Final scoring was 80-72 79-73 79-73. Sjauw improved her record to 19-5-1 (5 KO's); Whaley fell to 3-8, 1 KO. The event turned out about half of the 3,000 capacity of the arena. Butterbean was the main-liner of the show. Britain's  Jane Couch outpointed her  Russian opponent, Viktoria Olenik of the Ukraine, in a four-rounder by winning by decision. Couch is now 14-3, and Olenik dropped to 0-2. Also, Cathy Brown of Peckham, UK,  stopped her opponent with a TKO   Romona Gughie of Romania, in round three.  Brown improved her record to 6-1.   

June 16, 2001, at Treasure Island Casino in Red Wing, Minn
Cincinnati's Vikky Clardy won a unanimous decision in a four-round lightweight division, over Mandan, N.D.'s Ragan Pudwill. Clardy moved her record to 3-1, and Pudwill has dropped to 2-5. 

June 16, 2001 - Budapest, Hungary
In front of a crowd of 14,000 countrymen at the Budapest's open air Ice Stadion, Michele Aboro TKO3 Krisztina Stefula in a jr. featherweight bout. Aboro is still undefeated with a 20-0 (12 KO) record. 

June 16, 2001 - Emerald Queen Casino, Tacoma, Washington
Laramie Hinostroza of Kansas City, who has relocated to Portland, Oregon, lost by a four-round split  decision against Christina Avitia of Tucson, Arizona. The fight was a rematch.  WBAN will get more info on what boxer it was.  Apparently it was a rematch with one of her previous opponents. Avitia improved her record to 1-1, and Hinostroza dropped to 3-1-0 (2KO).

June 16, 2001 Derby, UK
Sara Hall of the UK, won by TKO in the fourth round in a bantamweight division against Juliette Winter, who was making her pro debut. The fight was scheduled for six rounds. Hall improved her record to 2-1 (21 KO).

June 15, 2001 - Sky City Casino, New Mexico
Adriana Delgado of Albuquerque, NM won a unanimous decision over Nina (Bertha) Gonzalez of California. Delgado has improved her record to 7-2 (3KO), and Gonzalez dropped to 3-4-1.

June 15, 2001 - Columbia, Missouri 
Renee Richardt of Kansas City, Missouri had a four-round draw with Rima Freeman  who is also from Kansas City.  Richardt is now 2-0-1 (1 KO) and Freeman is 2-1-1 2KO.

June 15, 2001- Kiev, Ukraine
WIBF European Junior Flyweight champion Alina Shaternikova KO2 Inna Ivanovskaya. Both from the Ukraine.  Alina is now 9-1 (2KO). 

June 14, 2001 - Chicago, Illinois
Leatitia Robinson won a very close unanimous decision against Karen Bill in a four-round middleweight division,  in Chicago, Illinois,  Robinson's hometown area. Bill said that her opponent was "very-welled schooled at moving around." Bill was a last-minute opponent for Robinson. Final Scoring by judges was 40-36, 40-37, and 39-37. Robinson was the USA Boxing national 165-lb champion in 2000 and has an outstanding amateur record of  37-1. Robinson moved her record to 2-0-0 (1KO).  "

June 14, 2001- Nice, France
Nancy Joseph of Nice, won a six-round decision against Nadia Debras in a Bantamweight bout. Joseph is now 3-1, and Debras dropped to 1-8-1.

June 12, 2001-Wilmington's Big Kahuna Nightclub - A Dee Lee and Nick Tiberi Productions. 
Philadelphia's LaKeysha "Total Package" Williams showed that she indeed does have all the skills by scoring a big win over previously undefeated Yolanda Gonzalez, from Newark, NJ, in a 4 round woman's bantamweight bout. Williams, now 3-1-1, opened with a high guard and a strong left jab, which was countered by right hands to the body from Gonzalez. In the second round, Williams ended an exchange with a short right to the jaw, knocking Gonzalez down. The second round was all Williams, but Gonzalez came back to make a fight of it in the third. In the 4th, Gonzalez emerged from a clinch with blood streaming from her right eye. The cut was ruled an unintentional headbutt as the fight was stopped. They went to the scorecards, with Williams taking a Technical Decision by the scores of 38-36, 38-37 and 39-36. Gonzalez falls to 5-1, 3 KO's).

June 12, 2001 ESPN2 - Texas
At "The Pavilion" in the Astro Arena, in Texas, and televised on ESPN2 "Lovely" Lani Ellis (4-0 3KO) won a four-round unanimous decision (all judges 39-37) against Rema Freeman  ( 2-1 2KO).  

June 12, 2001 in Polanco, México
Bantamweight Ana María Torres of México City  TKO2 Miriam Serrano. Torres improved her record to  5-0-1 (3 KO's) and Serrano's record is unknown.

June 9, 2001, Kolobrzeg, Poland
Agnieszka Rylik, 139, (Poland) KO'd  Mary Haik, 139,  (Pearl River, LA -U.S.) in the third round of a scheduled 10-round bout,  for the defense of Rylik's WIBF Jr. Welterweight Title.  Rylik retained her title.  Rylik improved her record to 7-0 (6 KOS), and  Haik dropped to  7-9 (1 KO).

June 8, 2001 - Turning Stone Casino
Verona, New York
Laila Ali, 160 3/4, defeated Jacqui Frazier, 164, of Philadelphia with a majority decision. Ali moved her record to 10-0 (8KO), and Frazier dropped to 7-1-0 (7KO). The final scoring was 77-75, 79-73, and 76-76.  TL Fox scored the fight 77-75 for Ali.

June 8, 2001 - Hollywood Park Casino, Inglewood, California
Fredia "The Cheetah" Gibbs won a four-round unanimous decision over Susan Howard of Novato, California. Gibbs improved her record to 7-1 (2KOs), and Howard fell to 6-3 (2KO).

June 8, 2001 - ESPN2  - Ho-Chunk Casino, Baraboo, WI
Andrea Nelson, 134, of Dodgeville earned a draw against Gloria Ramirez, 133, of Sunland Park, N.M., in a 4-round women's lightweight bout. Nelson was knocked down in the second round, but came back to win the 3 and 4 round according to news sources, and the fight was made a draw. Nelson is 8-0-1 (4KO), and receiving her first "draw" in her professional boxing career. Ramirez dropped to 6-10-3 (2 KO's).

June 3, 2001  Fox Sports Net, in Elgin, Illinois 
Jimi Chartrand, 31, proved to be too much for her much younger opponent nineteen-year-old Susan Nance, when she stopped Nance 18 seconds left of the second round in a scheduled four-rounder. Chartrand improved her record to 2-1-1 2KOs,  Nance's record has dropped to 1-4. 

June 2, 2001 -Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet, Cranston, Rhode Island
Jaime Clampitt of Calgary, Canada, KO1 Anita Parker.  Ted Panagiotis wrote "Much anticipation surrounded the four-round female bout between Jaime "The Hurricane" Clampitt and Anita Parker of Philadelphia. Clampitt did not waste any time in her CES debut and scored a first-round knockout that raised her record to 5-1 with two KOs. Clampitt, of Calgary, is relocating to Providence to continue her pro career."

June 1, 2001 - Sands Hotel and Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey
Isra Girgrah, 128,  won a 10-round unanimous decision over Snodene Blakeney, 5'5",130, for the vacant IWBF Junior lightweight title. In the Atlantic City Press, reporter Guy Gargan wrote: "Female boxer Isra Girgrah entered the ring Friday at the Sands Casino Hotel with her entourage carrying her two championship belts. World heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, her friend and co-trainee at the Round 1 Gym in Baltimore, Md., was carrying one of them.  After all this fanfare, it wasn’t an easy night for Girgrah, but she left the ring a little less than an hour later wearing a third belt.  Using ring generalship, Girgrah came on to outpoint brawling Snodene Blakeney of Austin, Tex., over 10 rounds. She won the vacant Women’s International Boxing Federation junior-lightweight championship. Girgrah, 128-pounds, improved to 18-3, with eight knockouts. Blakeney, who weighed in at the junior-lightweight limit of 130 pounds, ignored her underdog role and flailed away with both hands as the bout began. She never let up, but Girgrah found the range from the fourth round on, and generally landed better punches. Judge John Reilly and Luis Rivera both scored it 97-93 for Girgrah, and judge Alan Rubinstein had it 97-94. The Press scored it 98-95 for Girgrah.

June 1, 2001 - Formosa, Argentina
Marcela Acuña defeated the Colombian Luz Marina Sarabia Ledesma by a six-round unanimous decision in a 6 rounds bout. (Formosa is the hometown of Acuña. Acuña's record improved to 2-2. Sarabia fell to 3-2-1. final scoring by the judges was  60-55, 60-56, 60-53.

June 1, 2001  Bismarck, North Dakota
Jenny Miller, lightweight of Bismarck/Mandan won a unanimous decision against Shannon Brown of Bull Head, South Dakota,  in a four-rounder. Final scoring was  40-34, 40-35, and 40-35. Miller moved her record to 1-3-1. 

June 1, 2001 in Leon, Spain 
Cristina Gutierrez had a four-round draw with Noelia Fernandez. Both fighters are from Spain.
