won a six-round unanimous decision over Dee Hamaguchi, 107 lbs.
Final judges scoring was 59-55, 59-55, and 59-56.
Report by LongJab:
For those of you ‘local yokels’
who were disappointed when USA Tuesday Night Fights had
discontinued, take heart. A series of Tuesday Night Fight
cards just began at Martin’s West this evening before a large
enthusiastic crowd within the main ballroom. A six-fight card
featured some up and coming local talent as well as some from
the region, plus there was a special attraction that really
liven up the crowd when two lovely ladies ‘rumbled’ in what
seemed to be a nonstop six round bout where the two
pugilests went at each other like two Energizer® bunnies
who kept going and going. ‘Vicious’ Vaia Zaganas,
(104.25) coming all the way from Las Vegas, Nevada
and Dee Hamaguchi, (106.25) from New York, the
‘Big Apple’, provided a fast-paced example that the rest of
the card participants seemed to follow. In the fourth bout of
the evening, Zaganas and Hamaguchi battled for six rounds in
what seemed to be a rather heated exchange at times with
Zaganas, the defending IFBA Straw weight Champion, winning the
decision unanimously by the scores of 59-56, and 59-55 in two
judges’ views. Both ladies came to fight and fight they did.
They each won a great deal of respect from the audience.
Hamaguchi showed great heart in a losing effort. Zaganas will
be fighting here in future events. With the win, Zaganas
advances her record to13-2-0 with 6 wins coming by way of
knockout. Hamaguchi, who has fought some pretty tough
competition in her first eight fights, drops to 1-5-2.
