At the South Florida Fairgrounds, in West Palm Beach, Florida, Ada
"The Ace" Velez won a 124 lb. six-rounder with a TKO
in the fourth round over Atlanta's Rolanda Andrews. WBAN’s
Inside reporter said that in the first round, Ada came out
and felt Rolanda abilities and finished strong in the last 30 second
of the first round to win on the judges scorecard. In the second
round, Ada preceded to keep a fast and relentless pace and
worked Rolanda’s body. In the third round, Ada came out
again with a fast pace and almost stopped Rolanda with hooks and an
uppercut to the chin---Rolanda grabbed and held, but Ada did not
grab back and she worked her punches in close. In the fourth
round, Ada resumed the aggression with a barrage of combinations
throwing them at all angles, Rolanda did not answer back, and took
many hard punches from Ada. The Referee jumped in and stopped the
bout. Ada and Rolanda’s fight was of the most exciting fights on
the card. The fight was taped and will be aired on TV in two
weeks. In a second women’s match, Brenda Vickers
faced Brenda Bell-Drexel in a 130-lb six-round bout, where
the fight went to the score cards. According to WBAN’s insider
reporter, Drexel-Bell kept the action forward on to Vickers, and
Vickers backed up and used her reach to score her punches. Vickers
won by a unanimous decision. These two bouts were qualifiers for the

of the eighth round, and winning the IBA, WIBA, and the IWBF World
Title belts! Crystal Hoy, 125, had a four-round draw with Lisa
Pederson.

Kelly Whaley made her
return to boxing after announcing her retirement last year, and she won a
four-round unanimous decision over Jaime Day. According to WBAN's
insider, Day took some big shots from Whaley, but stayed on her feet as
Whaley dominated the fight. On this same card, former Amateur champion
Blanca Luna won a unanimous decision over Jennifer Howe, a former 7-0 NHB
fighter.

At the
Edgewater, 27-year-old Tracey Stevens, 105, won a four-round
unanimous decision over Stephanie Dobbs, 107.5. Stevens
knocked Dobbs down in the second round, with Dobbs taking an eight
count. Final judges scoring was 40-35 on all cards. I
spoke to Stevens after the fight. Stevens said that she felt very good
after the fight with Dobbs. Stevens said that she has been
professionally boxing since 1998, but that she had a long layoff, and came
back to fight Mary Duron. Stevens said that prior to becoming a pro
boxer, she spent four years as an amateur boxer.

In a packed house at the Centennial Gardens, of over 4,500
boxing fans, on a Golden Boy Promotions, Kelsey Jeffries won
a 10-round unanimous decision over Layla McCarter for the IFBA
World Featherweight Championship! According to WBAN Insider
reporter, Jeffries took the fight to McCarter, and was affective with her
body shots. There were no knockdowns. Julio Cesar Chavez and
Oscar De La Hoya were seated ringside. Final scoring by judges was
99-92, 99-90, and 97-93.

Michele Nielsen, Houston, Texas won a four-round unanimous
decision over long time veteran Shakurah Witherspoon,
Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Nielsen improved her record to 7-3-1

Stefania Bianchini won a bantamweight six-rounder by points
over Marianna Pampuk.

At the Equinox Night Club, in Leicester Square, Cathy "The
Bitch" Brown, from Peckham, London, returned her winning
streak with a confident win over the much younger Monika Petrova,
of Sofia, Bulgaria, in a six-rounder. The final scoring by judges
was 59-56. Petrova, a former kickboxer, is an 18-year-old
architectural student who has been boxing professionally for 18
months, and is managed and trained by Michail Simov at his
Gladiator Gym. Petrova will be fighting in 10 days in Vienna. A

Kumar of Haryana (Bronze in 48 kg category), Karamjit Kaur
of Punjab (bronze in 75 kg category) and Jyotsana of Haryana (bronze

over Claudette Alexander, 122. According to WBAN's
Correspondent Durell Wambolt, Olga applied a tremendous amount of
pressure from the start and all Claudette could do was run and hold
to survive. On all judges score cards, it was 4-36 for Olga.

Melinda Cooper, a boxer with an extensive amateur background,
becoming a pro boxer when she was 17 years old, wasted
little time when she quickly disposed of her overmatched opponent,
22 year old Brittney Conan, 117 lbs., when Cooper KO'd Conan
14 seconds into the first round. Cooper is now 5-0-0 (3KO). Conan
has fallen to 0-2-0. Conan trains out of Colorado and
according to information received she has been boxing for about one
year. One side note from WBAN is, if this boxer is paying a
manager to put her in two fights that she has now had where she has
been overmatched----the best thing this fighter could do is get rid
of him or her. This is NOT managing a boxer in their best interests.

Jr. flyweights Patricia Martinez KO’d Natasha Wilburn
in 1:19 of the fourth round. Martinez was the more technical of the
two, while Wilburn threw inaccurate and sometimes wide punches.
Martinez is now 8-1-0 (1KO), and Wilburn is now 3-6-0.

Jeffries won a six-round unanimous decision
over Jo Jo Wyman in a California Featherweight title fight,
featherweight division. WBAN's correspondent said that the
fight did not disappoint boxing fans when Wyman and Jeffries
delivered an action-packed performance. The judges scoring was
58-54, 60-54, and 59-55. Jeffries is now 16-7-0 (1KO), and Wyman is
9-5-1.

Marilyn Salcido,
stopped Yolanda Gonzalez, when about 1:50 of the first round
Salcido threw a three-punch combination that had Gonzalez go down to
the canvas. Gonzalez got back up and finished the round. The doctor
went in to check Gonzalez and stopped the fight-the fight was
stopped in the 2nd round which made it a TKO2.

Rita Valentini won a four-round unanimous decision over Angie

On the undercard and first fight of the night, two women boxer
heavyweights made their pro debut. Phillisha "No Doubt"
Darby, 21, 5’9", 200, a hometowner, fought Michelle
"The Pitbull" Cooley, 31, 5’7", 225, King of
Prussia. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Darby clearly
outboxed Cooley and was awarded a four-round unanimous decision.

In front of a 700 plus boxing crowd, Julia Day pinned her first win as a
pro, when she won by a TKO over Sherrie Simms 1:40 in the third round. The

Elena "Baby Doll" Reid, 119, won by a six-round
unanimous decision over Terri Cruz, 123. Reid improves to
11-2-1 (4KO), and Cruz is now 5-3-2 (3KO). Dale Hauser of Ring Sport
wrote, "On the undercard of
the Rey Beltran vs Carlos Diaz fight, on October 1st, Elena
"Baby Doll" Reid fought Terry "Lil' Loca" Cruz
in a six round contest. Crowd favorite Reid, 119 pounds, swept the
first four rounds with hard shots and a wicked jab. Cruz, 123
pounds, came on in the end and took the last two rounds and the
fight had the crowd on it's feet for most of the fight. All three
judges were in agreement on the outcome and scored the fight 58-56
for Reid. Reid is an Arizona native and Cruz is from Denver
Colorado. Elena is rated # 1 in the world at all three organizations
at 115 pounds. She had been spotted training at Knockout Boxing Gym
in Phoenix before the fight but usually trains in Las Vegas. (Report
