In the city of "Brotherly Love", Philadelphia, last night, Jacqui Frazier, 183, of Philadelphia, won a four-round unanimous decision over Carley Pesente, 213 of Connecticut. The fight was originally set to be for eight rounds but was reduced to a four-rounder.

August 28, 2004 - in Sopron-Balf, Hungary
Former amateur bronze medalist of Hungarian championship and pro debuter Beatrix Faragó (52,8kg / 116,5 Lbs) won by TKO3 over slovakian Veleria Zahorecova (52,0kg /114,75Lbs), in a scheduled four-rounder.  The referee gave Zahorecova two eight counts before stopping the match.

Yidi Meza and Adriana Payeres, pro debut, fought to a six-round draw. 

August 28, 2004 - Ovation Club, Boynton Beach, Florida
Bantamweight Laura Norton won a four-round unanimous decision over Miranda Mirasol.

Donna Biggers won by KO 1:20 seconds, in the first round over Nicole Perkins.

Lightweight Kara Ro won a six-round unanimous decision over Angela Poe.

In an eight-round exhibition match, Middleweight Conjestina Achieng fought Fiona Tugume in a no decision match.

August 28, 2004 - Kinder, Louisiana
Valerie "The Wolfe" Mahfood defeated number one ranked Carlette "The Truth" Ewell for the IBA Continental Americans Light Heavyweight Title. Mahfood weighed in for the match at 169 1/4 pounds. Ewell weighed in at 169 1/2 pounds. With the win, Mahfood's record improves to 17-7-1, 8 KO's. Ewell's drops to 6-3.  The IBA Title Match was a scheduled ten round event. Ewell fell in the second round, however, the referee deemed it a slip. The bout was awarded to Mahfood as a majority decision. The score cards read: 97-93, 97-93, 97-94.By the first bell, the Grand Casino Coushatta had sold out of all tickets, leaving standing room only for the several hundred still waiting to get inside. It is estimated over 6,000 people attended the fights, which featured Hector Camacho Jr. as the main event. Mahfood vs Ewell was awarded "fight of the night."  In a four-rounder, Kasha Chamblin, made a short night of it when she stopped Dana Kendrick 1:01 in the first round.  Records

August 27, 2004 - Burbank Hilton Convention Center, Burbank, California
Fontana’s Heather Percival tangled with Compton’s Tracy Carlton in a rematch at the Burbank Hilton Convention Center on Friday. Despite a few notable changes it was the same outcome. Percival (2-0), looking trimmer at 125 pounds, used a steady stream of snapping jabs with slick foot movement to keep the stronger Carlton from setting up her punches.  “My corner said she was going to come after me and to keep my defense tight,” said Percival, who is trained by Larry Ramirez and son Frank Ramirez. “I used my jab to set her up.”   In the previous fight held several months ago in Montebello, Carlton (1-5) managed to use her strength to contain Percival in the corners of the ring while releasing bludgeoning punches. This time Percival slipped away effortlessly and left a left hook as a reminder that things had changed.   After four rounds the judges scored it 40-36, 39-37 twice for Percival. There were no knockdowns.  “They called us three days ago to see if we would fight her,” said Ramirez, who formerly worked on the 1988 U.S. Olympic boxing team. “We knew what to expect and they knew what to expect.”  The slight change was Percival’s combination punching and adept movements to get out of range once she landed her punches.   “She sparred a lot with Mariana Juarez and Rhonda Luna,” said Ramirez of the junior bantamweight and featherweight contenders out of Southern California. “She really picked up a lot.”  Percival, quickly nodded in agreement that sparring with the two ring savvy female fighters added to her arsenal.   “You can’t help but learn more when you spar against those girls,” said Percival.  Despite a five-pound weight advantage, Carlton was unable to penetrate Percival’s defense set up by a stinging jab.  “We knew she was overweight but we didn’t care,” said Percival. “I’m looking forward to my next fight.”  Report by Mara Castillon

Franchesca Alcanter, 131, won by KO 55 seconds of the first round over Leonora Jackson, 141. Sumya "Island Girl" Anani served as ring announcer for the event of a six bout card.  All other matches were men's boxing.

August 27, 2004 - Wichita, Kansas
Stephanie "All Action" Dobbs KO'd Olympic weight lifter Loreen Miller in the third round of a scheduled four round bout.  Miller was making her pro debut. Miller was down once in the second and again for good in the third. 

August 27, 2004 - Chicago, Illinois
Elizabeth Kerin, 3-0-1, stepped up to the plate and fought Kathy Rivers, now 13-4-2, in a slugfest that ended in a four-round draw at the Ramada Hotel. Rivers took the fight on two days notice after Kerin, with the help of Bonnie Canino challenged Rivers to fly to Chicago for the fight. Rivers, who fights Leatitia Robinson next month was ready and both women weighed in at 176 pounds.  Rivers and Kerin were well matched and content to keep the fight inside for the better part of four rounds. Kerin was able to use her jab effectively in the first stanza, but Rivers tried to smother it during the last three rounds with several sharp uppercuts. Rivers and Kerin fought evenly along the ropes, but Referee Pete Podgorski stepped in on the infighting before any damage could be inflicted. After the fight, both fighters said they'd like to fight again and judging from the crowd reaction, this would be an excellent rematch.  Kerin wanted to step up her career in her fourth pro fight and battle a contender. It has been problematic for promoter Bobby Hitz to find good competition in the light-heavies division for Kerin to fight. Kerin got on the phone and called Canino who said Rivers was available and willing to fight. After the fight, Rivers added, "Hey, I'm a fighter and even though I had not heard of her (Kerin) I took the fight because it allows me to keep busy in prep for my fight next month with Robinson. After that fight, I'd like to do a rematch with Kerin." Kerin agreed she'd fight Rivers again, but before the year is out Kerin has her goal set on fighting Valerie Mahfood  and/or Vonda Ward.

August 24, 2004-  Mid Hudson Civic Center, in Poughkeepsie, New York
Super featherweight Leona "Downtown" Brown, of New York, won a six-round unanimous decision over Canadian Olga Heron. The fight was on the ESPN2 "Tuesday Night Fights"  but was not televised and was the last fight on the card of the evening.  Final judges scores were 58-56, 5856, and 59-55. 

August 21, 2004 - Fairgrounds in Paris, Arkansas
Sarah Goodson, 114,  TKO'd Tammy McGuire, 124,  at end of the second round of a four-rounder. McGuire is now 0-5. Also, Tawnyah Freeman, 139, TKO'd Lonita Dow, 138, at 0:47 in the second round of a four-rounder. Dow is now 0-6.

August 21, 2004 - Paragon Resort and Casino, in Marksville, LA.
Wendy Rodriguez, 105,  became the new NABA World champion when she defeated Yajaira Martinez, 105,  in 10-rounds of action.  Final judges scores were 98-92, 97-93, and 96-94.

August 21, 2004 - Ciudad Obregón, Mexico
Less than five weeks since the donnybrook in Quérataro that had spectators throwing money into the ring, Jazmín Rivas of Torreón (Coahuila) and Martha Leticia Arévalo of Guadalajara (Jalisco) did it again last night in Ciudad Obregón — this time for the Mexican bantamweight title — and once again, Martha Leticia showed great courage in the face of a remorseless pounding from the seventeen-year-old. As in the first fight, Rivas had no difficulty in imposing her style, landing the heavier blows and winning clearly on the scorecards of all three judges (100-93, 99-91, 100-93) but without breaking the spirit of the Guadalajaran, and once again, the talent of the one and the courage of the other were applauded loudly at the end of each round. August 20, 2004 - Isleta Casino, in New Mexico
Yvonne Chavez, 119, now 3-3-0 (2KO), of Albuquerque, New Mexico, won a unanimous decision over previously undefeated Valeria Flores, 121, 4-1-0, of San Antonio, Texas. Flores was a last-minute opponent for Chavez, when her original opponent cancelled off of the card.

August 19, 2004 - Aldrich Arena, St. Paul, Minnesota,
and promoted by Team Freedom Promotions,
Mary Jo Sanders, 140,  stopped Lisa Holewyne, 143,  of Texas, in the ninth round.  This was Sanders first defense of her IBA Continental belt. The Sanders-Holewyne fight was reported as "Fight of the Night".  Sanders won every round, on the judges score cards.  Holewyne was knocked down in the eighth, and stopped 1:55 sec. of the ninth round.

August 14, 2004 -  at the Sports Complex, Salinas, California, USA
Junior Flyweight Carina Moreno, 109, of Watsonville, California, remains undefeated with 6-0-0 (2KO), when she won a six-round unanimous decision over Maribel Ocasio Soto, 112, of Puerto Rico, now 4-8-2 (0KO). According to Jesus Sanchez, Carina Moreno won a unanimous six round decision over Maribel Ocasio-Soto in Salinas on Saturday night. Maribel was overmatched and constantly held Carina throughout the fight. Surprisingly the referee did not warn Maribel or deduct any points for the constant holding! Carina landed her straight right almost at will but there were no knockdowns. All three judges scored the fight 60-54 for Carina.

August 14, 2004 - Sladkovicovo, Slovakia
Junior Flyweight Blanca Pecimuthova, won a four-round unanimous decision over Valeria Zahorecova. Zahorecova is now 0-3-0. 

August 13, 2004- Temecula, California
It was experience against power and once again smarts won out. Kelsey Jeffries used her high-powered offense to blitz through six rounds in a non-title fight over San Antonio's powerful Melissa Yanas (3-3, 2 KOs) at the Pechanga Resort and Casino on Friday. The fight was not televised by ESPN.
From the first round on, Jeffries bewildered Yanas with non-stop aggression that included punches to the body and head. Though Yanas took the brunt of the blows, she never seemed hurt but was unable to land more than one punch at a time. Jeffries marched in with her two-fisted attack and forced referee Raul Caiz Jr. to call a knockdown on Yanas in the third round.  Yanas seemed more determined the next round to step her own attack and landed a solid uppercut but received a stunning right hand almost simultaneously. That became the theme of the fight with Yanas landing a solid right and Jeffries coming back with several more.   "It wasn't my best fight out there," said Jeffries (28-8) of Gilroy, California. "She did a lot of holding and she was awkward."  At times it seemed Yanas wanted to kick Jeffries and lifted her knee up a few inches before dropping it back down to the floor.   But though Jeffries landed numerous punches, Yanas withstood them all and seemed unfazed.  "She was a little strong in there," said Jeffries of Yanas. "She'll do better with someone else."  But for now, experience proved too much.  Jeffries will be fighting for the IBA featherweight title next. Report by Mara Castillon

Featherweight Lilian Da Silva (Liliane Balles), 56.9, won a 10-round split decision and won the South American Featherweight title over Patricia Alejandra Quirico (57 kg) of Buenos Aires (Argentina).  Final scoring was 97⁵-96 (Martínez Del Sel) for Quirico,  97⁵-97 (Echandi) for Balles, 98-97 (Ferrari) for Balles.

August 7, 2004, Pontchartrain Center, Kenner, Louisiana
Bantamweight April Wigington, won a four round split decision over Lisa Zeringue.  Zeringue was knocked down to the canvas in the fourth round. 

August 6, 2004 - Quiet Cannon, Montebello, California
Welterweight Kuulei Kupihea, 151, won a four-round unanimous decision over Tia Greenberg, 147.

August 6, 2004 - Desert Diamond Casino, in Tucson, Arizona -ESPN2 "Friday Night Fights"  (untelevised)
Sarah “Thrilla from Manila” Goodson, 104.5,  won by an eight round split decision over Stephanie "All Action" Dobbs, 104.5. There were no knockdowns in the fight, and a third time for the two to fight each other. The two were fighting for the Vacant WEBA Strawweight title. Final scoring was 78-74 for Dobbs, and 77-75 (twice for Goodson).

August 3, 2004 - Piazza Della Pace, in San Mango d'Aquino, Italy
Sonia De Biase, 112.5, of Italy won a six-rounder by decision over Réka Krempf, 113.5. According to news sources, De Biase was originally supposed to fight Naria Naroszsnik.
