fought Lisa McFarland for a Texas Title. McGowan TKO1 1:16 McFarland.
McFarland is the boxer who had talked to the
Miami Herald about
taking a "fixed" fight in 1999. The Miami Herald wrote, "Dania
Beach's Lisa McFarland told The Herald in a tape recorded interview that she
threw a fight to Bethany Payne last year in Tallahassee. Records
indicate McFarland and Payne each were paid $400 for the fight, but
McFarland says she received an under-the-table bonus of more than $1,000 for
tanking the bout."

first-ever world title in Guyana, Gwendolyn "The Stealth
Bomber" O'Neil,

United States, for the vacant WIBA Light-Heavyweight world title.
O'Neil won the title with a 10-round unanimous decision over Rivers.
Final judges scores was 98-93, 98-92, and 100-90. O'Neil improved her record
to 8-3-1 (6KO), and River is now
13-4-1 (5KO).
In another women's bout scheduled in the card, Pamela
"Grenade" London, 182, of Guyana, won a six-round unanimous decision
over the much lighter opponent, Geraldine Cox, 156, of Guyana.

In the main event,
Regina Halmich
, won a 10-round
unanimous decision over Daisy
Lang and won the vacant
IWBF jr. bantamweight world title. Halmich moved up two weight
classes to achieve this feat. According to WBAN's insider,
Halmich chased Lang during the fight. Final judges scores were
96-94, 97-93, 96-94. In a post-fight
interview, both Halmich and Lang were interviewed
after the fight. Halmich apologized, that the fight was not
exactly the women's fight of the year, and blamed Lang for
running backwards and not wanting to fight. Lang on the
other hand thought she was robbed. She said that she
won all 10 rounds, and that Halmich hardly got any punches
through. Lang explained that she was a counter boxer, and that
anybody who knew anything about boxing could see that she won
the fight. WBAN had two reports about this fight, which
both said that the fight was one-sided with Halmich winning
this match. In the co-main event,
Marischa Sjauw
of Holland, fought Germany's Heidi Hartmann. Hartmann
captured the vacant WIBF-GBU welterweight world title after
the fight was stopped due to a cut. According to WBAN's
insider, the fight was stopped between the 9th and 10th round,
when the female ring doctor stopped Sjauw, due to a cut that
had apparently happened in the sixth round by a clashing of
heads. The TV commentator expressed surprise at the decision,
which was increased when it was announced that Sjauw lost by
RSC, which is only used in amateur boxing-----then later
changed it to a TKO. Other results:
Super Bantamweight Austria's Urbaez Urena won a
six-round unanimous over Mariann Pampuk; Flyweight
Julia Sahin TKO’d Anca Popovic in the fourth round
in a scheduled Flyweight six-rounder; Super Featherweight
Ina Menzer KO’d Andrej Medelina in the first round;
Bantamweight Alesia Graf won a six-round unanimous
decision over Simone Sucio; and in a three-round bout,
unknown if it was amateur, lightweights Sonja Dürr won
three rounds over Carmen Falke.

In front of more than 1,400 boxing fans, on an Oscar De La Hoya
Golden Boy Promotions card, on the undercard, pro debuter and
former amateur Julie Rubalcalva, 18 years old,
Westminster, California, won by a four-round unanimous
decision over
Isabel Manyseng, San Antonio, Texas, in a
bantamweight bout on the undercard. News sources report that
Rubalcava was “impressive”, and that she outboxed manyseng.
Final judges scores was 40-36 on all judges scorecards.

Marcela Acuna stopped Daisy Padilla in the first round. This
fight was for the WIBA Junior Bantamweight world title fight.
Evidently stung by criticism in December that she had taken five and a half
rounds to finish Damaris Pinock Ortega, when she had had the
Panamanian at her mercy in the first, Marcela Acuña wasted no time or pity
on the lanky Colombian Daisy (‘Demolition’) Padilla in her first
title defence. Sensing an initial hesitation on the part of her opponent,
the champion moved swiftly across the ring (‘like a tigress with the cage
door open’ as Olé put it) catching the Padilla almost immediately with a
hard right to the cheek that had her reeling and following up with a furious
assault that forced referee Raúl Ilvento to stop the fight after only 43
seconds. Padilla, who was claiming a record of 14-1-0 with 14 KOs and had
boasted she would ´make the Tigress dance to my tune´, lacked the experience
(as ex-world champion Ricardo Cardona in her corner later admitted)
to cling to Acuña when she was hurt, to give her head time to clear.
Commented Acuña: “Even dazed, Padilla managed to throw a few punches and I
could feel she hits hard, but I kept beating her to the punch and she could
do nothing.” At midnight, Padilla was admitted to hospital as a
precautionary measure, though she was perfectly lucid. Report by Ewan

Leona "Downtown" Brown
pulled out an “upset” when she stopped local boxer
Terri Cruz,
in the fourth round. In another women’s match, Mia
"The Knockout" St. John, 134, stopped Melissa Yanas,
130, of Texas, in the third round. The Rocky Mountain Boxing Site (rockymountainboxing.com)
reported that St. John "cruised" to a third round stoppage over the very
game Yanas. St. John used her jab early in the game and wore Yanas down.
St. John then proceeded to shoot of a barrage of combinations that made
the ref stop the fight. In the Cruz vs. Brown match, Cruz got
caught with by a wide-right hook that hit it's mark, followed by another
right hook and reported to have been to the back of the head, followed
by an uppercut, in which was the time that fight was stopped.
On the Undercard, Terry
Blair stopped Mercedes Mercury
in the fifth round, winning by a TKO.
There were two exhibition bouts: Martha
Deitchtman vs. Tana Gallegos. Also, Vangie
Abeyta vs. Sarina Hayden.

In an all-women’s boxing card, the mainliner ended in an easy win for
Japan’s
Emiko Raika, when she defended her WIBA World
Featherweight title against United States Shelby Walker. The
fight was stopped in the second round by TKO in a scheduled 10-round
bout. According to the WIBA (Ryan Wissow), originally, Walker was
submitted in a “list” of potential fighters to the promoter in Japan,
that would be for an eight-round non-title bout, and that Walker was
picked from that list. Then the fight was moved to a non-mandatory
(voluntary) world title defense for Raika, with some kind of
understanding between the WIBA and the promoter that in Raika’s
“Mandatory” defense of her world title that will take place in
September, she (Raika) would need to fight against a “top contender.”
WBAN’s interpretation: “tune-up” world title fight.
Other results on this card included the
following: Flyweight Sachiyo Shibata won a 10-round unanimous
decision over Yumi Yashima, and Shibata is the new Japanese
Women’s Flyweight champion (more than likely a great matchup on this
fight); Featherweight Misa Morimoto stopped Maki Koyakashiro
in the fifth round of a scheduled six-rounder; Strawweights Marika
Watanabe won a four-rounder by a unanimous decision over Naoko
Sakamoto; Strawweights Nanako Kikuchi won a four-round
unanimous decision over Nao Ikeyama; Flyweight Rie Fujimoto
won a four-round unanimous decision over Tomoko Koga; and
lastly, Satako Kamimura won a four-round unanimous decision over
Yuki Sakurada.

Sandy Esmurdoc (1-0), (Cleveland) pro debut Vs Lashawana Knox
(Milwaukee) (0-2). Knox came out very aggressive throwing windmill
punches, no skill. Esmurdoc threw straighter punches but was more
defensive against the initial flurry. Both landed a few punches. And
after about 40 seconds Knox turned her back once or twice and looked for
a place to lay down. She went down and stayed at about 55 seconds of the
first round.

she won by a 10-round unanimous decision over Anissa Zamarron,

Ibanez, 128.

In front of about 1,200 boxing fans, in the semi-main event,
Jessica Rakoczy
of Las
Vegas, won an eight-round unanimous decision over Gloria Ramirez..
SteveCummings of inthecorner.net covered the fight ringside and reported the
following: Rakoczy's win over Ramirez saw the IBA champ
win seven of eight rounds against a southpaw who employed a lot of
movement. The lefty stance and side-to-side work of Ramirez appeared to
keep Rakoczy from getting off to her customary fast start, though
Jessica pressed forward constantly. Over the first two rounds, Ramirez
landed her left often but it didn't have the steam on it like the shots
she got back. Meanwhile, Gloria's punches were mostly one at a time
while Jessica would move into position and throw combinations when the
time was right. Rounds three and four saw Rakoczy (15-1, 4 KO's)
get in her best power shots and Ramirez' face started to show some
swelling. The pattern continued through the sixth round, Rakoczy coming
forward, Ramirez (9-13-5, 1 KO) using lateral movement looking to
counter. In each frame Jessica would let loose with both hands when in
range, and then continue stalking until another opportunity arose.
The last two rounds were Ramirez' best, as she finished off the seventh
with her best exchange to that point. She answered a Rakoczy attack with
her customary left hand shot and when the two battled on the inside,
Gloria let loose with an uppercut that found the mark. As the round
wound down, Ramirez gave as good as she got, though she didn't win the
round. Ramirez did win the eighth, however, as she came out more
aggressively and landed clean shots with consistency. I had it 79-73 for
Rakoczy, as did two of the judges. The third judge saw it as a shutout
for Jessica, 80-72.

Ivonne Muñoz, the Mexican bantamweight champion, knocked out
Silvia “Dinamita” (Dynamite) Zúñiga of Sonora 36 seconds into the
first round. The fight was at super bantamweight and sets Muñoz up for a
crack at Jackie Nava, who hold the Mexican title at that weight. Muñoz's
opponent for this fight had been named as Ana María Zúñiga (of
Sinaloa).

Witington had turned her back after a solid shot by Kendrick and the ref
stopped the fight.
