December 24, 2005 - Kenya International Conference Centre, in Nairobi, Kenya
In another questionable World title bout that took place in 2005, Conjestina Achieng won the vacant WBF middleweight world title against winless Argentinean Guillermina Fernandez. Fernandez came into the world title bout, with a 0-3-0 record, listed as a "welterweight", not middleweight in any of her previous bouts. (Both Boxrec.com and WBAN's records had her with no wins on her record). Fernandez is not ranked with WBAN, IFBA, WBC, WIBA, and it can be safely assumed not any other credible organization. In this obvious mismatch, Achieng stopped Fernandez 1:42 seconds in the first round of a scheduled 10 round bout. Fernandez had been stopped twice in her three previous losses from her past fights. It was reported in the local news sources that boxing fans, who had turned up early for the event, ended up waiting four hours before the event took place. Apparently it was a “purse” issue that needed to be resolved when the promoter had not paid the boxers. Another news source reported that Achieng and Fernandez had refused to go to the fight venue before receiving their fee from promoters Solid Rock Promotions. They were paid $5,000 each. One reporter describing the brief one-round bout said, “Kenya's Conjestina Achieng drove her fans into ecstacy with her electrifying first round demolition job on Argentina's Giullermina Fernandez.” That is a pretty good description of a non-competitive mismatch. Also, and Damaris Muthoni won by TKO2 over Monique Chipeta.

December 17, 2005 - in Max Schmeling Halle, Berlin, Germany
In front of a sell-out 10,000 crowd, United States Laila "She Bee Stingin" Ali, 169.5,  defeated Asa Sandell, 166.5, of Sweden,  1:51 seconds, of the fifth round by TKO. Sandell had look stunned after a hard right 90 seconds into the fifth round. Ali took advantage of that opportunity, and threw a barrage of combinations, backing Sandell up against the ropes, and peppering her with more quick combos.  Sandell looked out of breath and failed to defend herself, so the referee stopped the fight. The fight was delayed by about 30 minutes, awaiting the arrival of Muhammad Ali. Laila Ali had announced, that she would not enter the ring until her father was seated at ringside.  Also, tonight the United Nations Association of Germany (DGVN) presented Muhammad Ali with the prestigious Otto Hahn peace medal for his lifelong engagement in the American civil rights movement as well as his activities as a UN goodwill ambassador. After the fight Ali said,  “I expected the fight to be a little tougher than usual because she was a tall opponent and she was a tough fighter. And I felt like they stopped the fight too soon. I was a little disappointed at the stoppage because I didn’t think that she was ready to go yet. I wanted to put her out. She was on her way there. I had a game plan, I was working my way to her, and I started to get closer and closer, and I finally turned up the heat and they stopped the fight. It’s happened to me before. You know what I mean? These referees for women, for some reason, they don’t want to see ‘em get hurt. But, I have to give her her props; she did very well."

December 12, 2005 - Kansas Expo Center - Topeka, KS
Dawn Ramey, 114, 1-0-1, fought on the undercard against Claudia O’Brian, 122, in what was “supposed” to be a four round bout.
This fight was declared a "no contest". Check out story that occurred in this odd-ball match:
WBAN received information from an "insider" who was at the event, tell WBAN the following (excerpt):
“Last night I witnessed an injustice to Women's Boxing. Aaron Davis, the first Kansas Commissioner, has seemed to make up his own rules for professional women’s boxing. At the Kansas Expo Center in Topeka, Danger Fire Promotions, there was a female fight scheduled for four rounds. ( O’Brian, pro debut, vs.Ramey). At the beginning of the third round bell, (neither fighter injured) the referee, Raul Guaverra, stated it was only scheduled as a two round fight. Aaron Davis, the first Kansas Commissioner, agreed, even after both promoters Craig Cummings and Brian Reed jumped up to dispute.   Davis ruled the fight a unanimous decision after two rounds. With much confusion, both women protesting, they went to their lockers-----removed their gear, handwraps and changed. After a significant delay, Davis decided that they could continue the two rounds. He asked both women, to get ready and go out for two more rounds. Davis said, if they did not it would be considered a TKO on the record.”  After receiving this information, WBAN contacted Brian Reed, of Danger Fire Promotions by phone, and he confirmed that this incident had indeed occurred.  Reed told WBAN, “It would be an injustice to both fighters, and all female fighters, to have a commissioner decide women should fight two rounds, then leave the ring with a break, have them put their wraps and equipment back on to fight the “second” two rounds, and having this as a sanctioned bout.”

December 10, 2005 - Emperor Garden, Budapest, Hungary
Hungarian Krisztina Belinszky, 101.5,  (17-4-2; 9KO's) defeated  American Terri Moss, 103.25, (6-9; 2KO's) by unanimous decision and captured the WIBC Strawweight vacant Title.  JollyDee told WBAN, that Moss was boxing in a "dirty Style", whereas she was holding and butting, and that the referee penalized her in the sixth round, for "serious" head-butting. Terri's nose was bloodied in the fourth round---but ringside doctor gave permission for the fight to continue. Final judges scoring: Patrizio Oliva (ITA) 100-89; Ernö Kaiser 98-92; Imre Nagy 98-91. In another women's bout on this card, pro debutant Hajnalka Nagy, 114 1/4,  lost by points (47-49) to Gabriella Rozsa, 115.

Bantamweight Bettina Csabi, 116½, won by a technical decision over Nadia Hockmi, 116¾. WBAN does not know why it went to the scorecards, but usually it is due to a cut, etc.  Final judges scores were 78-75, 78-75, and 79-75. Csabi was defending her WIBF-GBU Bantamweight Title.

December 8, 2005 - Panama
Ana 'Dinamita' Pascal won by TKO when the fight was stopped by the referee, Julio César Alvarado, on the advice of the doctor, Antonio González, 35 seconds into the 6th round, because the Colombian, Paola Rojas was bleeding from a cut at the back of the head caused by an accidental collision of heads at the start of the round. The fight took place in Las Tablas (Panama). Pascal later described Rojas as 'a very good opponent'.

December 5, 2005 - Highland, California
With only a four-day notice, Lisa Holewyne packed her bags, flew to Southern California and fought Martha Deitchman (2-8-1) who out-weighed her in a six round fight. It was still a dominating performance for the native Texan.  Holewyne, an elite welterweight title-holder, bore through Deitchman’s defense in workmanlike fashion and a two-fisted assault over six rounds at the San Manuel Casino before scoring a technical knockout. It was the first pro fight card ever held in the popular casino.   “She was a scrapper,” said Holewyne, who didn’t lose a round to the hard-nosed Deitchman from Denver. “I don’t think she has ever been knocked out before.”  From the first round Holewyne’s experience and skill immediately proved the difference between the pair. But Deitchman’s ability to take a punch and her uncanny ability to parry blows while moving away saved her through most of the fight.  A double left hook in the sixth and final round enabled Holewyne to fire more combinations and force Deitchman to the ropes. She couldn’t escape. Referee David Denkins stopped the fight at 1:40 in the sixth. Holewyne accepted the fight despite a large weight advantage and Deitchman’s experience as a survivor. Though the Colorado fighter did not win a round, she managed some clever counter-punches throughout the fight. It just wasn’t enough.  A native of Houston, Texas, Holewyne said the end is near for her career. But first she wants to remedy some dark moments from the past.  “I want to fight Shelly Burton again,” said Holewyne, who is the WIBF welterweight title-holder, and plans to meet Mary Jo Sanders in a rematch. “I’ve fought the best and I’d like to fight Mary Jo Sanders again. She’s really good. That’s what I want first.”  Sanders is scheduled to meet Holewyne on Dec. 17 at the Auburn Hills, Michigan.   Holewyne, whose record involves bouts with a Who’s Who of women boxing such as Christy Martin, Layla McCarter and Summer Fettkether to name a few, fancies her two bouts against Sumya Anani as a test of her will.  “In the first fight with Sumya Anani I didn’t last,” Holewyne said of the first fight that took place in 2002 . “But in the second fight I went the distance with a fighter I consider the best. Her and Mary Jo Sanders are the best out there. And that’s who I’d like to fight.”  Now nearing 40, Holewyne does not plan many more fights in 2006.  “I’m a world champion,” she said. “I’m going to give Mary Jo Sanders some hell.”

December 5, 2005 in Sao Paulo, Brazil
Adriana Salles won by KO4 over Liliana Balli.

Dec 5, 2005 - Palais Omnisport, Bercy, Paris, France Myriam Lamare, now 11-0-0 (6KO), of France, fought England's Jane Couch for the Vacant WIBF Junior Welterweight and WBA Junior Welterweight title.  Ewan Whyte told WBAN, that after a rollicking from Lamare's trainer for going backwards and letting Couch take the initiative in the first round, Lamare stood her ground in the second and third and muscled it out with her. Very quickly her class began to tell, and she got the upper hand ("Elle est la patronne C'est sur!" ("She's the boss. There's no doubt about it!") said the summarizer. Whyte said, "As is usually the case in Europe, there was one commentator who was media friendly (a TV professional) and another who actually knew the sport:  Commentator A (talking about Couch's record and her ruggedness) : "It's going to be complicated"  Commentator B (firmly). "No. Myriam's more precise, she's more complete, she's more versatile, she's stronger, she's younger, and she's the champion. It all adds up..." And just at that moment it did: Lamare landed a right cross and began to open up. Within 10 to 15 seconds she had Couch flat-footed and staggering in the centre of the ring. To me (and obviously to the referee as well) it looked as though Couch was about to get hurt - perhaps quite badly -- she has this bullock-like strength, Lamare -- but at the actual moment the referee stopped the fight, Couch appeared to be regrouping and there were only 7 seconds to go to the bell, so she was very angry with the stoppage. Someone explained that the referee did not have the option of giving Couch a standing 8 count and he obviously was not prepared to take the risk of letting it continue.

December 3, 2005 - Hotel Hilton, Prague, Czech Republic
Promoted by  OK-KO Promotions
Bantamweight Eva Liskova won a four-round unanimous decision over Petra Jachmanova.

December 3, 2005 - Aragon Ballroom, in Chicago,Illinois
Rita Figueroa threw the harder punches against a very active Mercedes Mercury in garnering a unanimous decision over her fiesty opponent.
Round one, Mercury boxed with a frenetic nervous energy as Figueroa stalked. The busier fighter, she peppered Figueroa about the head with both fists. Figueroa drilled her in a corner with a right hand, but Mercury escaped and boxed. Figueroa bounced a pair of heavy rights to the head on the ropes and, again, Mercury escaped. In round two, Figueroa found her range and began connecting with jabs, rights and lefts with increasing frequency as Mercury circled and punched in bunches. In round three, Figueroa appeared to rock Mercury momentarily with two jarring rights to the head on the ropes. Another right snapped Mercury’s head back. A left snapped her head to the left. However, Mercury kept both fists pumping and the two slugged it out on the ropes, then in a nearby corner at rounds end. In round four, Mercury resumed her frenetic pace, bouncing herky-jerkily and flurrying as Rita committed power more behind her punches. Sitting down more on her punches, Mercury made more of a war of it as the two traded toe-to-toe at rounds end.  All three judges scored the bout identically at 39-37 for Rita Figueroa.   Afterwards, Figueroa said of Mercury, “Tough girl, tough girl! She can fight!”Figueroa, 5-0-0, 2 KO's weighed 133.5 lbs., while Mercury, 3-7-0, 1 KO, weighed 134.5 lbs.
