2006 - Harrah’s, in Kansas City, Missouri
There was a night of action in women’s boxing. In the main event, Hollie Dunaway won a 10-round unanimous decision over
Melissa Shaffer. When the winner was announced, there was
some confusion, when the ring announcer, said that their was a “new
WIBA World Minimumweight champion.” Shaffer briefly celebrated the
announcement, thinking that she had won the title. Dunaway and the
ref looked puzzled. Before announcing the name of the winner, the
ring announcement was corrected to say that Dunaway was actually
STILL the WIBA Minimumweight champion, then announced Hollie Dunaway
as the winner. In other action-filled bouts,
Super-featherweights Kelli Cofer, 132.5, of Ohio won a six-round
unanimous decision over Liz Drew, 137.5. Cofer went
to the ER after the fight, and it was discovered that she had a
broken hand. Windsor’s Super Bantamweight Jeannine
Garside, stopped her opponent, Kim Colbert in the third
round, of a scheduled six round bout.
Minimumweight Holly “Baby Face” Shore won a four-round
unanimous decision over Savannah Hill. Lastly, in a Lt.
Heavyweight bout, scheduled for four rounds, Bose Ljoala, won
her first pro bout, when she took the bout by a four-round unanimous
decision over pro debuter LaMara Iverson.

DoubleTree Westshore Hotel, Tampa, Florida - Report by Christopher
P. Cook
In front of a capacity crowd, Tampa’s own boxing beauty Jenna
Shiver (1-0-1), 126.75 lbs, struggled to a hard-fought majority
draw with debuting Kornelija Numic (0-0-1), 126 lbs. It was a
sloppy and uncoordinated display of pugilism by both female
combatants, but the crowd was pleased by the complete lack of
defensive technique by each party. Neither fighter established a
clear dominance in the contest, opting to trade shots instead of
implement strategy. When things started to get a little rough on the
inside, Referee James Warring took control and ended the nonsense.
Judges Don Trombley and Michele Hellstern both scored the fight
38-38, with the dissenting score being 39-37 Shiver by Donald
O’Neill.
